I'm a first time poster here. I frequent this site a lot and was wondering how any of you feel about the current pirates logo? I feel that in order to be a respected franchise, two things need to be accomplished....winning and branding.
Aesthetically speaking, I love how our management team has rebranded some of the team's looks such as replacing the red jerseys with the black jerseys, and using the alternate "non-pirate" logo that simply uses the 'P'. What I do not understand is why there hasn't been any main logo makeover since new management took over. The main logo has no classic elements and the bright gold and red colors make it rather cartoonish compared with the rest of that league's logos. (disregard Miami's new logo because it kills my argument)
All I did with this logo was improved upon our main logo. That included combining the classic look of the '87 to '96 logo to the one the Pirates use today. It really isn't exactly a complete logo overhaul as you can tell. Adding the diamond from the '90s logo gives the new logo balance and a classic feel. To most fans, that early 90's logo represented a time when the Pirates were competitive and fans wore that logo with pride. Going back to the classic theme, I removed the red outline within the Pirates text and darkened/slightly desaturated the red in the bandana. These small but powerful changes show a more vintage look that I feel looks like a respectable franchise and not the gaudy look of the past 16 years.
