Today in News of Former Pirates (11/9/2011)
- 2010 Rule 5 pick and 2007 Sally League MVP John Raynor has announced his retirement as a player. He's going to join the coaching staff of his former college, UNC-Wilmington, and finish up his undergraduate degree.
- Former Pirates manager Gene Lamont is scheduled to interview for Boston's managerial opening. The Red Sox's search has unexpectedly taken on a very black-and-gold hue, as other announced candidates include former Pirates coach and interim manager Pete Mackanin and former Pirates player and Altoona Curve manager Dale Sveum.
- Former Pirates pitcher Paul Martin passed away on Tuesday. Martin, who grew up in Fayette City, pitched in seven games for the 1955 Pirates, before suffering an arm injury that effectively ended his pro career. He was 79 years old.
- Chris Jakubauskas signed a minor league contract with Arizona.

Why the need to ask? Of course the letdown of going from the Pirates back to the Marlins was a downer to the point that he just didn’t feel like playing anymore.
