I can almost see the Orioles or Pirates going there if the price is right, even on a four-year deal.
MLBTR's Tim Dierkes on Edwin Jackson's destination.

I can't see the Pirates giving a 4-year deal to any free agent
especially not a starting pitcher
Even if the Pirates give him a 4 year deal
they can stil trade him when Cole and Taillon get called up within a couple years.
I don't know what kind of money the Pirates still have to play with
but adding him to the rotation, IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT, isn’t the worst idea I’ve heard.
I'd go 3/31.5
2012: $9MM
2013: $10MM
2014: $11MM
Club option for 2015 at $11.5MM with a $1.5MM buyout
Not sure if Boras would go for that, of course, but that’d be the best I’d go on Jackson, whom I’m a big fan of.

I like that
I’m unsure on whether I’d shoot for 4 years…which is why I like your idea of a club option. Would love for that to get it done.
I'd
love to see us sign Jackson. Add a Derrek Lee or Carlos Pena, and we have a decent chance to make some noise this year.

if we added Lee or Pena what the heck would happen with the rest of the roster? what would the roles of Jones, McGehee, Evans, Fox, Nunez, Navarro be with one of those additions to first base? I mean that would bump Jones to most likely 5th on the depth chart in the outfield depending on how McLouth does. Then with McGehee we would be have a potential 20+ home run guy rotting on the bench
get the best players then worry abt the others
There’s no chance all of Nunez, Fox , Evans and Navarro make the roster. I’d guess 1 or 2 at most of those guys.
There’s a chance McGehee could end up starting 3B, but if they think he’s a 20HR guy, they’ll find a way to put him in there. That does push Jones to 5th OF, and they’ll probably regret signing McLouth, but that’s OK…
Who cares what would happen with Fox or Evans or McLouth? That’s like saying we shouldn’t sign Edwin Jackson because it will affect Kevin Correia’s spot on the roster.
Like BK said, get the best players available and the rest will take care of itself. I’ve got a bad feeling that McGehee will be our starting 3B this year (please prove me wrong Pedro), but even if not he’ll get his ABs somewhere in the lineup.
Complaining about what to do with signing a guy like Lee or Pena
is almost like not drafting a catcher because you already have Tony Sanchez. So much shit can happen when you go to play the game that you get as many good players as possible and worry about that later. The Bucs should be so good as to complain about too much depth.
I’m sorry but this is exactly the way we have grown to feel about our buccos and it is the complete wrong way of looking at things. If you can add a solid first baseman then you do it! If that moves jones to the last spot on the bench, that’s fine because honestly he shouldn’t be starting in the majors! It puts a 20+ hr guy on our bench, who cares! There are plenty of teams around the league that have guys who have 20+ potential on their bench! The point is to make the team better and if that means moving sub-par players to bench roles or DFAing them, then that’s what you have to do!
Then with McGehee we would be have a potential 20+ home run guy rotting on the bench
Or we have two guys (along with Jones) who might actually strike a little fear into the opposing team as a PH on the bench, if you want to look at the “glass half full” side.
It would certainly be much better than this year with Clint Hurdle looking down the bench and seeing Josh Harrison, Windows, McKenry/Jaramillo/Fryer/Toreagas and the Invisible Man as his options.
It's just my two cents. Could be worth more, could be worth nothing.
I think there are teams with whom he’d sign for 3/$30M, but I’d be surprised if we were one of them. He’s a Boras client, and Boras works very hard to keep his high-end talents out of markets like ours.

Perspective
Boras works very hard to keep his high-end talents out of markets like ours.
But is Edwin Jackson truly “high-end talent” or is it more a function of him simply being the second-best FA SP option this year (behind C.J. Wilson, as I don’t really consider Yu Darvish a FA in the traditional sense)?
This is where Boras excels: taking advantage of a down market and creating demand for these players that wouldn’t be as attractive in a normal FA offseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees took the bait and overpaid for Jackson, because with all of the work that the Red Sox and Angels have been doing this offseason and with the good young core in Tampa, the Yankees know their rotation is held together with chewing gum and rubber bands and they cannot afford to fall further behind their competition.
It's just my two cents. Could be worth more, could be worth nothing.
A good point
Could easily see him working his magic and extracting something like 4 years/$48MM out of a nervous Yankees front office.
