Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Jason Jaramillo and Pedro Ciriaco Designated For Assignment

This is being reported by the Pirates. I'm a little surprised that the team didn't DFA pitchers Jeremy Hefner or Ross Ohlendorf. I would imagine they will make an effort to keep both players in the organization, with Jaramillo being the higher priority. The team's lack of depth at catcher would suggest to me that he may well like to come back. This means the 40-man roster is now full and if the Pirates are going to make a selection in the Rule 5 draft they will have to clear another roster spot. At this point I would be surprised if the team does make a pick, picking eighth.

I think Hefner gets dropped the morning of the R5, to make room for a pick.

don’t they have to have an open 40-man slot by a certain date to make a Rule 5 selection? Is it the morning of…or a longer period of time?

Is it the morning of…or a longer period of time?

It’s the morning of.

by Vlad on Dec 7, 2011 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

If they were going to outright someone before the Rule 5...

it had to be done Monday (and outright waivers had to be requested by 12/1 according to MLB important dates). I don’t know for sure exactly how that plays into DFA a player the day before the draft, unless it limits their options to a trade or release.

#Pirates GM says he hasn’t yet decided if team will make a Rule 5 pick tomorrow. Midnite deadline to clear a roster space if they do.

Unless there is a trade or signing brewing...

why wouldn’t they know if they are going to make a pick tomorrow?

by Thunder on Dec 7, 2011 6:13 PM EST up reply actions

Like NH is going to tell anyone?

seriously

it is so secret…NH hasn’t been informed yet!

by insane_sanity on Dec 7, 2011 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

Umm...

@LangoschMLBJenifer Langosch

#Pirates have acquired INF Yamaico Navarro from the Royals in exchange for Minor Leaguers Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris

And he goes on the 40 man roster…so if there is going to be a Rule 5 pick, it will mean 2 moves.

by Thunder on Dec 7, 2011 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

So, what does this tell you?

NH isn’t leaking any rumours – he’s making deals…

Doesn’t mean 2 more aren’t coming off the roster.

Well…Ohlendorf is one, reportedly to open a spot for a Rule 5 pick…and supposedly another one coming tomorrow to add Navarro. That would be 2.

See?

I was right.

…you were wrong.

Yes, you are probably correct....

doesn’t hurt to take a look at someone, but it will be interesting to see who they designate at that point. Hefner’s made it through three moves so far….

There are better pitchers than Hefner available. Hefner’s big advantage is that he can be optioned to AAA.

by Vlad on Dec 7, 2011 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, it's kind of a crapshoot.

Sometimes, a guy catches the eye of the right scout, and that’s all it takes.

by Vlad on Dec 8, 2011 9:28 AM EST up reply actions

I'd like to think we could find better ways to use a roster spot at this point

than picking someone at #8, but maybe the Bucs get lucky and someone they really like falls to them, not of the caliber of Raynor or Josh Rod.

My money is still on a trade...

… it seems to be NH’s m.o. to come out of nowhere with stuff. I bet it’s a great pick up, but nothing currently out on other teams radar.

I could feel his muscle tissues collapse under my force. It's ludicrous these mortals even attempt to enter my realm. ~~ Mike Tyson

i would like that

just dont think NH gives up any prospects

by white angus on Dec 7, 2011 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

Awesome.

Hopefully Ohlendorf is next. I have no idea why he has not been non-tendered.

Should the Pirates keep Neal Huntington?

Pedro Ciriaco’s agent, Juancho Diablero, appears to have leaked a video of him holding a fat manila envelope and blowing kisses. The 29 GM’s, when asked about the sudden availability of Ciriaco, all said “Who?!?”

other news, someone (I’m too lazy just to check on mlbtraderumors again; its like 3 pages back), maybe the Tigers? signed Argenis Diaz. Do we still have Hunter Strickland? Thanks alot Adam LaRoche.

Anyway..do y’all remember when Mario and Luigi were the future, along with our ace Bryan Morris..? /Shudder

And in other, other news, it’s finals week #1 and my brain is turning to mush.

can this just be a thing of the past, once and for all?

IT WAS ONE TIME, a couple of YEARS AGO.

Sorry, but… sheesh.

OMFG

uncalled for, man.

Many throw around sarcasm here — including yourself…and when he (apparently) didn’t get it, I clarified.

If you don’t like the fact I referred to then I’m DAMN sorry, but it doesn’t change the fact that it happened. Don’t have to be an ass.

As I said in MY post, "Sorry"

I also don’t see where you clarified anywhere in your response that you were being sarcastic in your first.

Sorry, again.

what was Ike’s injury this year?

by Mr. E on Dec 7, 2011 11:13 PM EST up reply actions

it was an ankle — ended up not needing surgery, but apparently microfracture was discussed.

The most recent post I’m seeing about it is from September, here. Didn’t do a lot of homework…but enough to think about.

by insane_sanity on Dec 7, 2011 11:18 PM EST up reply actions

He missed pretty significant time

and if I remember correctly (although I was dissociated from the world for about a month this summer) there were some different rumors on its severity

I'm so bummed out that Ciriaco won't be around any more!

I mean, didn’t someone put up the factoid sometime during the season that he had the best average on the team with runners on?!?! Or he was our best pinch hitter in terms of average?!?!?! Or somethin’…like… good?

There’s no hope for 2012… yep, we’re punting….
