Some of you saw this yesterday, but I missed it. Clint Hurdle says that Jose Veras has a job in the Pirates' bullpen. It's not a surprise that it will turn out that way (I was mildly excited when the Pirates signed Veras, and I think he pretty plainly deserves a roster spot), but it is a surprise that we're only a couple days into Spring Training and there's hardly even an appearance that there will be any competition for bullpen jobs. Five of them (Joel Hanrahan, Evan Meek, Joe Beimel, Chris Resop and now Veras) are pretty much locked up, and the other two look very likely to go to Jeff Karstens and Scott Olsen (or Charlie Morton if Olsen makes the rotation).
