Hi everyone... brand new member here...
For a bit of background, I've enjoyed visiting Bucs Dugout for the past 2-3 years to follow the ups and downs (OK, mostly downs) of the Pirates. I'm on the West Coast and, although I watch about 120-130 games a year through my cable provider's MLB package, I never signed up to participate on this site. I lurk almost every day, though, and I truly look forward to reading through the analysis, debates and eternal hope that is offered here. One of these days, things will turn around and we will be victorious. I hope...
Anyway, enough about that. For several years, I've wanted to take a trip to see numerous major and minor league cities/stadiums back East and I'm finally going to do it this summer. The trip has a definite Pirates angle to it, as I plan to see the Pirates at home twice and on the road twice while also visiting Charleston, Altoona and State College. My reason for finally joining the forum and posting now is that I want to ask the community about recommendations for food, hotels, sightseeing options, etc. either at or on the way to each destination. If a stadium has a signature item on the menu that I just shouldn't go without, please let me know. In short, I'd appreciate any assistance that anyone can provide, no matter how trivial...
My current schedule will take me through Washington, D.C.; Charleston, WV; Cincinnati; Cleveland; Altoona, PA; State College, PA; Pittsburgh (2 days); Canton, OH (Football HOF); Buffalo, NY; Syracuse, NY; Cooperstown, NY (Baseball HOF, obviously); NYC; Philadelphia; Baltimore; and then Wash D.C. again to wrap things up...
I hope it isn't too presumptuous to ask for this kind of help in my first-ever post, but I trust that the community will come up with some winning ideas. Thanks very much in advance, and I look forward to our future interactions!
