I think I like the Tabata #1 McCutchen #3 lineup.

Walker if he repeats last year can be decent in the two hole. I’m not sure he is going to do that.

by Kosstic518 on Feb 26, 2011 1:08 PM EST reply actions

Pitching around Alvarez already. Would have liked to see (or hear in this case) Price challenge Pedro and give him something to swing at.

Being facetious about the pitching around him thing.

Well, Morton starts with a walk. Here’s to hoping he turns it around!

Midseason form with the leadoff walk :p

Quick double play.

No harm done. Good battle back by Morton.

Longo grounds to Pedro.

Nice work on the 1-2-3 inning working around the leadoff walk.

by pskell02 on Feb 26, 2011 1:19 PM EST reply actions

What did he have? 8 pitches? I think they would want to give him a little more work than that.

by Hegs on Feb 26, 2011 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly

I know its early but 10 pitches is like not even playing haha.

by Kosstic518 on Feb 26, 2011 1:23 PM EST up reply actions

Curious to know how Morton performs when he doesn’t give up a first inning run. Anyone have something like that written up?

Yeah, I love how Gameday “catches up” by showing like 8 pitches consecutively. Oh he walked…and then a hit….oh, double play. All that happened in 10 seconds?

Of the 8 hitting positions, who are you most worried about?

For me its catcher. I think we are really going to continue to hurt until Sanchez gets here.

by Kosstic518 on Feb 26, 2011 1:44 PM EST reply actions

To me, it depends on how you look at it. Snyder will be solid behind the plate, but lacking with the stick.

To me, the biggest concern is SS with Cedeno. It really depends on which guy shows up. If it is the Cedeno that was playing well in the field and swinging a decent bat, it will be a non-concern. But if he looks like he did at the end of last year, our pitchers are going to be in some trouble.

by pskell02 on Feb 26, 2011 1:48 PM EST up reply actions

He will only have the .225/6/35, if his defence is dececnt then its all we can ask for. He is a AAAA player.

that will either be AMAZING for Walker or TERRIBLE for Pedro.

I think more along the lines of amazing for Walker. He’d have to keep pace with El Toro’s home run counts and rake in the doubles like Freddy used to do

Biggest thing that stands out about this lineup as compared with last year

There’s way less holes in the order. I only see one, maybe two outside of the pitcher in this one. Last year there were holes all over the place.

Yeah. McCutchen not hitting leadoff is not good though. -2 to -3 wins from here.

You’d rather see
1. Cutch
2. Tabata
3. Walker?

I might agree, Walker excelled in the 3rd spot last year. And top of the order gives Cutch the most at bats so I’m fine with that.

That’s fine. I don’t mind Hurdle mixing up the lineup a bit in spring training, this is when you can experiment. But I don’t think there’s any doubt this is a considerably stronger batting order than what we had last year on Opening Day. Almost every position is stronger

As long as its Tabata in the 1 hole I don’t see a big dropoff. If he can keep up the BA and increase his OBP to the .775-800 range, I think we will actually see a + in terms of wins.

by pskell02 on Feb 26, 2011 2:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah don’t think he has much chance to be in the starting rotation. He’ll REALLY have to impress to make it over Morton/Olsen or even Burres and so far here…might have already been eliminated from contention.

by grambo119 on Feb 26, 2011 2:11 PM EST up reply actions

Definitely. We know he can, he had 33 in ‘09. I think he’ll have to, because before with Crawford hitting in front of him, there wasn’t always the need to swing for the fences because a base hit to either field is going to score CC most of the time. Maddon loves the small ball. But I think Longoria is probably a lock for 30+ this year again
