Pirates Demote Pedro Ciriaco, Suggest That Chris Snyder Will Go On DL

Stay connected for news and updates

The Pirates have shipped infielder Pedro Ciriaco to Class AAA, and suggest that they will probably have catcher Chris Snyder start the year on the DL:

Also, general manager Neal Huntington said that a disabled list stint for catcher Chris Snyder to begin the season is "very probable." Thus, this opens the door for outfielder John Bowker to make the team out of camp as the team, most likely, will carry two catchers on the opening day roster -- Ryan Doumit and Jason Jaramillo.

Actually, it looks like the bench is almost completely set, assuming Snyder does in fact go on the DL. Doumit will apparently move from a bench role to become the primary catcher for the first couple of weeks, and the bench will be Matt Diaz / Garrett Jones, Jaramillo, Josh Rodriguez, John Bowker and Steve Pearce. Now the only issue left to settle is who will take the last couple of bullpen jobs.
