UniWatch 2011 MLB Preview

I was afraid this column had died out at ESPN in favor of the Coors Light 5 Bud Facts about the quaker state spring training Yankees RedSox Binford Tools Rivalry preview but apparently UniWatch is still alive.  If you're into graphic design, or just uniform intricacies like me this article is always cool.  Paul Lukas does a great job running down every change to team uniforms this year.  Buccos are eliminating the last remains of red from their unis and the pinstripe Vest uniform, which I know a lot of people liked but I never did.

Booo!

The pinstripes are the best one. I like the gold though.

glad to see the pinstripes go

although they were better than these…

And these...

Even though I wasn’t too fond of the pin stripes myself.

I actually kinda like these. The one above it is terrible, though.

meh

I was sort-of okay with the red jerseys in theory, but in practice they were pretty garish. Something about that particular shade of ketchup with the gold was just kind of appalling though.

i didn't like them simply because red isn't a team color

it’d be like the Steelers wearing red, blue, and yellow uniforms. it just aint right.

by theatrain on Mar 30, 2011 2:18 PM EDT up reply actions

McClatchy tried hard to make red a team color . . .

At least, that’s the story I heard.

I actually thought the black caps with the regular logo but the red brim were a pretty good look.

But don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer just black & gold any day.

Or like the Pens wearing baby-blue unis. ;-)

i dunno

by theatrain on Mar 30, 2011 9:02 AM EDT up reply actions

youre just not used to the heat, man

it easily gets 95-96 degrees here with high humidity. pittsburgh in the summer? ha!

by white angus on Mar 30, 2011 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions

I'd like to see the regular sleeveless become the Sunday afternoon unis.

I remember a few years ago right before Piratefest there was talk about a change in uniforms. I said that they should keep the regular sleeveless and then have a regular sleeved uniform like they have now for Sunday games.

Octavio Dotel...

I thought he looked like Grant Jackson in those uniforms.

I just wish we would go back to the vests

I always liked being different.

The plain white vests should come back.

They look good, they’re not too different with our current uniforms, and its just a nice homage to that older era.

Gotta have the stirrups, too.
