Joe Beimel appears ready to join the Pirates in the next couple days and when he does he will have to be added to the 40-man roster. The Pirates just recently added Jose Veras to the 40-man and designated Ramon Aguero for assignment. In a mild surprise, Aguero didn't make it through waivers. The Texas Rangers claimed him and assigned him to their AAA affiliate.
The question is when the Pirates add Beimel, if they don't move anyone to the 60-day DL--and their doesn't seem to be a candidate for that at the moment--who do they designate for assignment? It seems to me it has to be a pitcher. I've listed some choices below, but feel free to add your thoughts in the comments.
In other roster news, expect to see Chris Snyder added to the roster and Jason Jaramillo optioned to Indianapolis any day now.
