Minor League Thread
Since we've got a rainout in Pittsburgh, I figured we could start a minor league thread.
Rudy Owens is starting tonight vs. Toledo at 7:00. Hopefully he keeps up his impressive start to the season.
Altoona and Richmond are underway, no score in the bottom of the 1st. Jared Hughes takes the hill for the Curve, and Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects is there, live tweeting the proceedings.
Kyle McPherson is starting for Bradenton against Fort Myers at 7:05. West Virginia and Kannapolis are rained out.

cool
thanks for putting up the thread!
i wonder if we can rec this to keep this on the page for the entire week or so. I frequently follow the games, and post messages in the gamethreads, and it’d probably be nice to have a dedicated thread for it.
That's not a bad idea
I don’t think we need a separate thread every night, but a thread each week or so tracking/commenting on the minor league games could be helpful.
Rudy Owens
gives up 2 runs in the first… 3 GB singles, including one to the infield, 2 strikeouts in the inning.
In Altoona, Eric Fryer has the only hit through 4.
McPherson through 5
4 hits, 5K, 0BB, 0R…
sure looks like he’ll be in Altoona if he can stay this hot for a little longer.
Cunningham with 2 doubles and Santos with one.
Owens through 3.1
4 earned runs – all hits to the right side (according to Gameday) except f/a Home Run to left-center. 1 BB, 6 Ks.
On a trivia note, Klinger was a big Toledo Mudhens fan – if you have to ask who Klinger was, please google it. It would make me feel way to old to have to answer it.

Hey that’s the guy from What Women Want and Canadian Bacon.
Why’s he in the army and talking to a guy in a baseball uniform?

Owens has been pitching as usual tonight, maybe better than his other starts.
Just kind of less lucky (or more unlucky, if you want). Location is good, but as has been the case before, they do make some pretty good solid against him if they guess right.
Chase d’Arnaud curiously did not throw to third on a triple relay throw when it appeared he could have gotten him. First 2 runs were due to an infield hit where Owens didn’t cover 1B (although Hague made an excellent diving stop on it) and then a grounder through the vacated 2B spot on a runner in motion.
In all, I think there are definitely some questions as to how much Owens’ minor league success will translate to MLB. I’m not expecting domination, but I’d say he should have better success than Lincoln or DCutch has had.
Should say "they do make some pretty solid contact against him if they guess right."

That’s a pretty low bar to clear, can you be more specific?
Is Maholm a good comp?
Owens doesn't get the ground balls that Maholm does.
And that’s kind of the problem that I see. He’s a flyball pitcher without a lot of movement on his fastball. He relies on the batters not being able to barrel up the ball with his location and changing speeds. His curve is a good pitch that he can throw strikes with. The problem is it is a bit loopy, so good hitters can wait on it.

i have the same question. I tried to post something similar to your video earlier but it didn’t work. I think Maholm is the mid to good case scenario. I’m concerned that he is too hittable to amount to much. I think better than Maholm is really close to a best case scenario. I hope I’m not being pessimistic, that’s not my intention.
Yinzers uber alles
If he is another Maholm, I would be terribly surprised and disappointed....
I think he will be much better than PM over the course of their respective careers.
His CH is the key….

Chase d'Arnaud just connected on a long HR.
Indy was finally getting some hard hit balls in the 6th, but got a little unlucky.
biggyv
can you edit the title and just call it “Minor League Thread”? Just so people aren’t misled into not using it.
Sean Gallagher bombed again
lots of walks and runs…
Jeff Locke just gave up a HR to the first batter.
Wednesday
and I shall be there

Brandon Cumpton finally a good performance
Zack Dodson: 5IP | 7H | 2R | 5K | 3BB
Cumpton: 3IP | 3K; everything else 0…
Jeff Locke weird outing
5IP | 8H | 6ER | 10K | 2BB | 2HR
Holt and Marte 8-8 at the top of the order, with 2 doubles for Holt and a triple for Marte. Farrell 2 for 3 with a HR, Sanchez with a hit and a walk
Early numbers are not encouraging
Alot of hope that the minor league system is stronger than the 19th rating assigned to it.
Early results are poor, all the teams are losing and the hyped players, pitching specifically have been poor to average at best.
Curry looks like a player but still in A ball and Marte started on fire but has slowed. Add that Sanchez looks average so far w/ a bunch of errors.
My boss who’s brother is a Curve season ticket holder has said the team looks to be a shadow of last years team as far as playing smart and as far as having fun. All the things they did to win last year has been absent this year. Of course the players have changed and he’s still bitter about firing the manager.
Just maybe the fans are over hyping the prospects and that 19 rank is a fair rating.

19 sounds about right to me...
players are going to have to break out before the system is ranked much higher.
Jameson Taillon watch
for those who don’t know. 6:05pm
Lincoln is on the hill for Indy.
Bradenton already got shut down by Shelby Miller and Jared Hughes is the probably for Altoona.
i dont think it has been mentioned recently
but Jarek Cunningham is on some crazy kinda fire. triple slash line now .303/.349/.707
I would love to see his home road splits, but I don’t know where I can find that sorta thing anymore.
