Many regulars here are were not excited about the possibility of Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle buying the Pirates when word of their efforts in that regard surfaced within the last year.
Not only was the Nutting family apparently not interested, but news from this week suggests that the Penguins owners are moving on. First came word that Burkle is looking into getting involved with the Dodgers in light of the MLB take over. Then, this afternoon, word comes out that the Pens have sign an extension for local television rights with Root Sports through the year 2029.
In as much as the motivation for the Pens to buy the Pirates was primarily to form a regional sports television network, I'd say this news largely ends the likelihood of the Pens buying the Bucs.
Good day.
