Rob Biertempfel tweets that the Pirates have recalled Jose Ascanio, whose rehab period had ended, and placed Mike Crotta on the 15-day DL to make room for him. Dejan Kovacevic, meanwhile, tweets that Crotta just had an MRI on his elbow, which had been bothering him for two weeks. I wonder if the team knew that. Good luck to Crotta - elbow injuries are bad news.

UDPATE: Kovacevic writes that Crotta "didn't go to the team with this right away." I appreciate that he's a rookie and he wanted to pitch through it so he didn't lose his roster spot, but he probably ended up not doing himself any favors.
