We all bust Ronny's chops around here, and believe me, its more than justified. I dont like bashing any of the current Pirates so as soon as Ronny is gone I will be making up for some lost time. But I just noticed a dilemma that the Rays are having with their production coming from shortstop this season. Or should I say lack of. Reid Brignac has been on the Pirates fans' radar for a few years now. Tall kid, good defender, left handed bat with some pop. Whats not to like? Well, his start to the 2011 season for starters. Went to Lameday to check out the afternoon game between the Rays and Indians and I noticed that Brignac hit a double off of the greatly improved Justin Masterson and driving in 2 runs. Then I looked closer. It was Brignac's first double of the season. He has played nearly every game so far this season, and he finally got a two bagger. Then I looked even closer closer. This was his first extra base hit too!!! Holy $#@!... talk about sticking with a player whom is struggling. At gametime, Brignac's OPS was .404. So with all the worries about Cedeno, or Tabata, or even Pedro, at least they have touched 2nd base because of their own merits.
Sure Ronny is pretty awful, but it can always be worse, right?
