Could Pirates be trade partners with Giants Again?

With Buster Posey being out and SF giants bringing someone up from the minors, could the Pirates be a good trading partner considering we have Ryan Doumit who could replace Posey's lost offense to a SF Giant team that's been struggling. And if we were to consider trading, would the SF Giants have anyone we would want?

While the article states that he could possibly be back in 1 month or even 2 months. I find it highly unlikely that it's that quick.

I feel very sorry for Posey

But it does improve Doumit’s trade value, now that it appears he would be a significant upgrade for both the Sox and the Giants.

here is a weird question

Why not keep Doumit?

Because if you can get something more valuable to the team than Doumit from him, it’s better to move him?

Doumit’s been playing really well lately, so you better get a good offer or I would be inclined to keep him.

He probably wouldn’t get all that much.

If the Giants make that deal,

I’m making plans for the (newly rescheduled) rapture in October….

What does that mean?!

by Trogluddite on May 26, 2011 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, I wasn't going to call you a moron

but I think the likelihood of the Giants trading their premier 1B prospect, who temporarily displaced Aubrey Huff, for a oft-broken-down, mercurial (batting wise) catcher is rather small….much like the recent much-bally-hooed rapture last week that has apparently been rescheduled for October, I just don’t think this trade is happening.

What does that mean?!

by Trogluddite on May 26, 2011 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions

of course its rather small, in fact it will never happen (with the pirates, i mean)

i was just trying to stir some shit in here by making a trade offer thats ridiculous

+1

who in all the heck believes SF would trade their stud for an overpaid C?

by jackiegleason on May 28, 2011 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Not a moron for wanting the deal

A moron though for expecting any GM, even feaking NED, to accept that deal. Sabean might not be a great GM, but I don’t think there’s any way he takes that deal if it’s put on the table by NH.

(Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if NH ASKED for that deal, I mean, he brought up Neftali Feliz for the hammer last year so we know he has shot high in the past)

i saw Belt play only a couple of times last season in Richmond; he didnt stay in AA very long

the swing is legit. Richmond is not a good hitting park at all. I believe the record for dingers here is like 26 back in the 80’s. Belt launched a few in his short time here, and he looked like he was a big leaguer playing with high school kids.

by white angus on May 26, 2011 6:29 PM EDT up reply actions

So let's add to the mix!

If there is a possibility of trading Doumit to San Fran now with Posey out of the lineup for the majority of the season and the Giants are willing to trade Belt, why not entice them even more and offer them Matt Diaz or Jeff Karstens in the mix?

Yes, I know, Jeff Karstens and Matt Diaz’s names do not sound so enlightening. But they are two veteran major leaguers that Sabean loves and it gives the Bucs some more money to spend somewhere else.

It’s not like Diaz is even playing or getting many at bats. And by adding Karstens, you can give Brad Lincoln a shot to get in the rotation and Karstens gives the Gianst the same thing he is here a long reliever who can pitch anyday and spot start if any of their rotation goes down.

Diaz and Karstens would NOT entice the Giants

youre just trying to get rid of players you either dont want or dont have a future in the Burgh. To get Belt, youre going to have to give up some young talent in return.

Probably hasn't occurred to anyone in here...

but if the Giants are going to go looking for a catcher for the rest of the season…all they need to do is make a phone call. Their previous catcher, Bengie Molina, is a free agent.
