What does finishing the season at .500 mean for the Bucs?

How important is it for the Bucs to finish the season at .500?  No, I'm not advocating that we trade away any meaningful pieces in order to get to .500, but I am tired of fans on this forum and Clint Hurdle saying that getting to .500 is meaningless.  Having a winning season would end the longest stretch of futility in American professional sports history.  It would increase revenue in August and September.  It would make the offseason much more pleasant, and it would make Pittsburgh a more attractive destination for free agents as we prepare for a playoff run next season.

Obviously the ultimate goal is winning a championship.  But if the Cards, Brewers, or Reds ran away with this division this year, how important would it be for the Bucs to get to .500?
