Note to Red Sox: You're in OUR house, suckahs!
I'm sensing some defeatism around these parts for this weekend's titanic series, and I ... WON'T ... HAVE IT!
Sure, we just recently rejoined the majors leagues. But we are playing good ball. We have a fine pitching staff. And it's about damn time we started showing some attitude about it.
So the Red Sox are good. Big fat hairy deal. So are the Phillies, and we took them for two in Our House. Bring it on, Bosox, and we'll show you the same kick-in-the-ass courtesy or die trying.
We shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

And if all else fails, get drunk and beat up Red Sox fans in alleyways and parking lots across the Steel City.
Just my two (awesome) cents.
That worked well for Dodgers fans...

Huh.
I was thinking more of (IIRC Ned Beatty’s) speech from “Network”:
You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I WON’T HAVE IT.
If they want Big Pappi to play at all in this series(excluding pinch htting)
he is gonna have to play the field. Advantage Buccos!
This team just lost 2 games to the Padres in Fenway, the are beatable
.Note to Red Sox: You're in OUR house, suckahs!
too bad that their may be more Red jerseys than black ones in OUR house.
Please, please no.

It brought out the best in Pirate fans against the Phillies...
hopefully they have the same type of resolve because it rubbed off on the players.

"It brought out the best in Pirate fans against the Phillies..."
I know that at the Saturday game, every time they started a “Let’s go, Phil-lies” chant, they got shouted down by a ""Let’s go BUCS!" chant, usually emanating from section 330

I was in 331 that night.
I am proud to know we were doing our part.
This is the most amped up I have been for a Pirates series in a long time. I am planning on two wins, though the sweep would be awesome beyond words. Imagine the headlines and the talk around the country when we take the series from them. Let’s Go Buccos, show the world we are for real.

If anyone plans on drinking at a bar before the games
I would steer clear of Finnigans Wake Saturday night. There is a big Red Sox function there. But if thats your kind of thing then by all means proceed
do what about the Dropkick Murphys

I predicted the last 2 Bucco victories
so my guess is the Bucs take 2 of 3 from the Red Sox.
パトリック
I was hoping for the best, but...
egads! Todays lineup:
1. Tabata 7
2. d’Arnaud 5
3. McCutchen 8
4. Walker 4
5. Diaz 9
6. Overbay 3
7. Cedeno 6
8. McKenry 2
9. Maholm 1
That sucking sound you here is the bottom half+ of our order. We are going to get murdered.
I predict
D’arnaud homers in his first AB as a pro. I saw him take Andy Pettite deep to lead off game 3 of the Eastern League campionship last year

Just for the record
this is what Yahoo’s “Big League Stew” had to say about Sunday’s game.
4. Nobody’s fault but mine: Primed for a momentum-granting sweep over the Boston Red Sox, the Pittsburgh Pirates instead created their own “dislike” button, committing four errors in a 4-2 defeat at a packed PNC Park.
Really? Perpetual underdog taking 2 out of 3 from the best offense in the game isn’t the story? No, let’s focus on the one loss. I know I should be used to this, but seriously, go f*%k yourself, Yahoo.

Well, they DID lose, no?
Free your ass and your mind will follow.
by cocktailsfor2 on Jun 27, 2011 10:05 AM EDT up reply actions
sure
But this was basically Yahoo’s “weekend recap” type of thing — the lead story was the Brewers sweeping the Twins. The second story was how the Giants managed to sweep Cleveland despite only scoring 8 runs all weekend.
So to me, the larger story would be “Suddenly relevant Pirates take 2 of 3 from baseball’s best offense,” not “Bucs blow chance to sweep Sox by committing a bunch of errors.” Seems like a series win is the bigger story, frankly. But maybe that’s just my homerism.
Tell me why we care
what Yahoo (ESPN and everybody else) thinks?
One of the few good things about getting older is, you learn to care less and less what anybody else thinks and what anybody else says.
Can I get a witness, Tails?

I don’t really know how much Yahoo baseball coverage translates to more fans, but I’m gonna rec this anyway for “More betterest winning %”.

I know, I know, you're right . . .
I consider myself pretty good at drowning out the static most of the time.
And the Yahoo baseball coverage is pretty much a joke anyway.
It just rubbed me the wrong way this morning, I guess. Going into this series with Boston I really thought we were gonna get killed. I would have been very happy with taking even one game. To win the series against such a stacked team feels like a huge victory. So to make the “story” focus on how we lost the third game just seems like such a weird decision.
There, there.
You’ll be all right. You’ll get over it.
