When I heard we where most likely to pick GerritCole, I was pretty disappointed. Yes, pitching and defense win games. But, home runs get people in the seats and right now we have none of that. I think that we have plenty of pitching prospects and not enough hitting prospects. The pirates should pick the best talent, hitter or pitcher, but it just seems that Rendon could be a force in the lineup. I mean remember when all the BD posters were putting lineups of tabata, walker, rendon, alvarez, sanchez, mccutchen, thats POTENTIALLY six stars in one lineup that will have even better complementary pieces than cedeno, overbay, and Jones/diaz.
Then again, Cole has Jameson taillon stuff and just imagine a starting rotation with those two at the top. Heck, we havent had a true ace since Doug Drabek, let alone two. Not to mention what Morris, Locke, Owens, or Wilson will do. If we get Cole, I think we are taking less of a risk then Rendon. You can fix control issues, but can only help injury issues.
There is no way we should pick Hutzen, we can't afford to give him more than 8, let alone 13!
As for Bundy, dont we have a similar player in Heredia? Both very, very young with plus fastballs and good makeup. The only difference, we got heredia for 2.5 million or something like that. If we pick Bundy, there is no way he will go for double that........besides, i think i like Heredia better.
What about the second round? If purke falls to the second round, which BA and others think, will the pirates pony up another 4+ million on him? The draft looks very expensive, and im afraid that we wont be getting the best talent on the board. Heres to Neil Huntington figuring out this crap!
