The new look Buccos....taking a look back one year - things have certainly changed!!!
Was just noticing last night's line-up in the Pirates game featured just Andrew McCutchen and Ronny Cedeno (and Jeff Karstens) who were on the team last year.
And it made me look to see where the current 25-man roster Buccos were just one year ago (June 30, 2010)....
MAJORS:
Ronny Cedeno - Pirates starting shortstop
Garrett Jones - Pirates starting 1B
Andrew McCutchen - Pirates starting CF
Joel Hanarahan - Pirates bullpen
Jeff Karstens, Paul Maholm and Daniel McCutchen - Pirates rotation
Neil Walker - just finished his first month in the big leagues by getting a concussion running into Ryan Church, resting on the bench, day-to-day
Kevin Correia - Padres rotation
Jose Veras and Tim Wood - Marlins bullpen
Lyle Overbay - Blue Jays starting 1B
Brandon Wood - Angels - starting to get a good bit of starts at SS & 3B
Matt Diaz - just rejoined the Braves after being out with his thumb surgery
MINORS:
Charlie Morton - Indianapolis rotation (AAA)
Daniel Moskos and Alex Presley - just got promoted to Indy within the last few days (AAA)
Tony Watson - Altoona bullpen (AA)
Chase d'Arnaud and Josh Harrison - Altoona (AA)
Eric Fryer - Bradenton Marauders (A+)
Mike McKenry - Colorado Springs (AAA)
Chris Resop - Gwinnett Braves (AAA) rotation
James McDonald - just pitched a rehab game at the Dodgers Arizona Rookie League before returning to Albuquerque (AAA)
Xavier Paul - Albuquerque (AAA) - just a few days away from being called up to be the Dodgers starting LF when Manny Ramirez got suspended for 50 games.
Wow, it's been quite a year!!

And don't forget
A year ago the Bucs were 28-51, .354 winning percentage and 16.5 games behind the Reds. Worst record in the NL; on our way to 105 losses. And, if memory serves me, we had a lousy interleague record also.

Good offseason as well
This has nothing to do with players, coaches, or on field performance, but there were a few positive developments about the franchise prior to the start of the regular season.
First, the broadcast of the presumed lost Game 7 of the 1960 World Series last November on MLB Network. Then, the introduction of the sharp, new batting practice/spring training jerseys, and the elimination of the bad Sunday pinstripe uniform.
I know it's been a crazy year with the injuries and such....
But I find it interesting in a year (coming in) where it felt like the team was finally getting into a period of stability (with Tabata, Alvarez, McCutchen Walker all becoming mainstays, most of the rotation returning, the back end of the bullpen coming back, and Cedeno and Snyder returning for another year as the SS & C)) that 2/3 of the current 25-man weren’t with the team last year.
It’s amazing the upheaval that a rash of injuries can have on a roster!
