As is stands today, the pirates are 1 game out of first place. Sure, they have their holes. But why go after a so-so player like Carlos Pena for half a season? Instead, try and get guys who will not cost very much, but could still benefit the team greatly. Here is my list:
*James Loney- He is a firstbaseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers. While he is having another mediocre season, he could greatly benefit from a change of scenery. He is batting .268 with 4 HR and only 31 RBI to go with his .653 OPS. His defense is decent and he would love the Clemte wall in right field. Overall, a Matt Hague would get this done[hague becomes redudant when pearce comes back.]
**Edison Volquez- After beign sent done for a pitcher who hasnt pitched since 2009, you know something is wrong. However, he still has tremendous stuff and a good 2008 season to back it up. Although we dont need another starter at the moment, he would be great as a long reliever. Honestly, A PTBNL or cash considerations should be enough at this point.
***Clint Robison- An AAA affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, he is now 26 years old but has put up some good numbers. He has consistently had an OPS over .800 all 4 seasons and has had an OPS over .937 3 times. He is batting .322 in AAA with 17 HR and 56 RBI this season. Now his only problem is that he doesnt really play aposition other than DH. But that just makes him easier to get.
