Jose Tabata has joined the Bradenton Marauders to begin his rehab assignment. This was expected, as Tabata went to Bradenton Sunday to continue his rehab work. Indianapolis is also on its All-Star break at the moment, so it will be interesting to see if Tabata goes to Altoona or Indy to get more work or just comes straight back to the big club.
A little under the radar is the fact that Steve Pearce is also rehabbing for Bradenton and has now played two games. He went 0-for-5 with a walk and two strikeouts while playing third base. I think Pearce's return will be an important addition, adding a righthanded bat. He could be the starting third basemen when he returns. It will be interesting to see if Pearce gets some starts at first base before he is activated. While I think Lyle Overbay stays on the roster for now, I am not sure he will be around on July 31 as multiple players return from the DL.
Also, expect Joe Beimel to be activated for Friday's game. The obvious candidates to be sent out are Chris Leroux, Dan Moskos or Tony Watson. I think it simply comes down to whether Hurdle wants a mop-up/long guy in the pen as opposed to three lefties. In the end we will probably see a bit of shuffling with that last bullpen spot no matter what initial decision is made.
