How much revenue are prospects worth?

Stay connected for news and updates

This is a question I asked in Charlie's post about DK's tweet.  How much revenue are prospects worth?  I keep reading how we shouldn't trade prospects for a rental, and that guys like Taillon, Allie, Marte, Heredia, and Sanchez should be "untouchable" or close to it.  But if trading away one of our prospects for a rental brought in millions in additional revenue, when does it become worth it?

It is pretty hard to quantify how much all of these prospects are "worth" to this organization.  But we signed Heredia last summer for $2.6 million ... so if the Bucs swapped Heredia for Beltran, how much additional revenue would the Bucs need to make (after paying for Beltran's salary) for the deal to be considered a success?  Theoretically, the Bucs could use that revenue to sign another Latin American star.  Similarly, Allie was lured to the Bucs by a $2.25 million signing bonus.

Prospects are worth a finite amount of money.  How much?
