Base-running Tactics

Hi ive got two questions about Hurdle and company's baserunning tactics. We have seen them take risks throughout the season with a more aggressive approach. In some cases this has worked and in others it has not. My questions are as follows: firstly, do we know if this approach has worked so far? are these risks paying off more than they are hurting us?

Secondly, specifically regarding two games ago, i didnt understand a move that was made. i think it was the second inning and the bucs were down 4-1 with ronny on second, mckenry on first, and maholm at bat with two outs. Maholm hit a single and scored ronny. mckenry was sent to third and was thrown out. I was pretty disappointed because Presley was coming up and i thought there was a good chance he could get a single to make the game 4-3 (and we all know how hard runs have been to come by). With two outs we needed a base hit anyway to score mckenry, its not like getting him to third could set you up for a sac-fly. I dont get why he was sent to third, i dont see what you gain by doing so. Seems like a pretty stupid move.

thanks
