Carlos Pena? One exec who spoke with the Cubs says the level of interest in him has been exaggerated -- and he's a guy they believe they can get through waivers and trade in August, when there's a lot less money left on his $10-million contract.
Jayson Stark. If other GM's believe they can get Pena through waivers and his price drops, perhaps the Pirates can get him Sunday for the cost of the rest of his contract and a low prospect or two.

Seems like he'd be pretty easy to get
If we ate his contract and gave them cash or PTBNL
Don't believe there will be a lot less on his contract
$5 million is deferred until after the season, right? Well count that as a GM who is not interested in Pena
How bout
this for a trade-Overbay for Pena straight up. Bucs pick up Pena’s salary and the Cubbies pick up the remaining dollars of Overbay’s contract. Cubbies still get salary relief and the Bucs gain whatever was left on Overbay’s salary to put towards Pena’s contract. Win Win..
nobody wants overbay
except his mama. and even she’s asking for cash considerations.
fixed
or…and
a son to be named later

cash and a prospect..?
Well, they would have to work on the cash, if it fits fine. On the prospect, we think alot of our minor league guys, but really there is not alot there except some possible pitching. Spray hitters, no SS, no 1B, no power so folks need to look at the 40 man and realize that we are going to lose some guys, better to give up a guy(or two) we do not think we can protect plus cash( reduced because of the players given) and get Pena than to have a straight cash or straight trade pick up.
no 1Bmen?
i can think of 3 1/2 that would like to prove you wrong.
