I don't mean to suggest this as another stupid trade proposal but rather a request for a scouting report on a player I haven't seen much. While thinking of positions that the Pirates could use an upgrade, I decided to glance at Kurt Suzuki's season. It has been terrible. I mean, really, really bad. He has often been mentioned as one of the "untouchable" catchers around baseball but I can't help but wonder if the Athletics are growing tired of him. It's seems possible that the Pirates could get him cheap and he would provide a stable, durable catcher for the next 2 years while they wait for Sanchez to develop. Suzuki (who honestly, I've never been a huge fan of) would be cheaper than Snyder or Doumit and has shown an ability to stay healthy.
Suzuki's BAbip the past 2 years is just .240 and he's a fly ball hitter in a massive ballpark. I'm not suggesting that the Pirates should or even could pursue Suzuki, I am just seeing if anybody who has watched him more than I have has a sense for whether he is a victim of a tough hitters park or if his bat has just died on him at age 27.
