Perrotto: Not enough bucks spent by Bucs

62

"...the Pirates have spent or committed to spend at least $33 million over the last 24 days. That's a very nice change of a pace from an organization known for pinching pennies. Yet, here is a sobering fact: New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez's salary this season is $32 million. Here is another sobering fact: The Pirates' $45-million payroll at the start of the season ranked 28th among the 30 major-league teams, ahead of just Tampa Bay ($41 million) and Kansas City ($36 million), and less than a fourth of the Yankees' $202 million. Since sobering facts come in threes, there is this: The Pirates have spent $93 million less in the last month than Washington did to sign free agent right fielder Jayson Werth last December." BLERG.
