The New England Collegiate Baseball League just finished its regular season and Ravnaas, a junior outfielder taken out of Georgetown with our 39th round pick this year, ended up as one of its top players. He posted a .342/.397/.595 batting line in 111 AB as the top hitter on the Newport Gulls , the team with the league's best record. That was good for fifth in the league in batting average and sixth in raw OPS. Ravnaas was on fire at the end of the season, going 21-for-46 in his last ten games, with three doubles, three triples, and three home runs.
That kind of performance doesn't guarantee that the Pirates will make a concerted effort to sign him, but it certainly can't hurt his chances. It's likely that there will be a few extra eyes on Ravnaas today at the start of the NECBL playoffs.
