Elias Rankings Update
Per Eddie Bajek, via MLBTR. Ludwick and Lee would both qualify for Type B status, as of now. Interestingly, Cedeno has an outside shot at qualifying for Type B status as well, which would make the decision on whether or not to pick up his option that much more interesting.

Interesting
Neil Walker is rated A, tied with Richie Weeks for second-best 2B in the league behind Brandon Phillips of the Reds. Brandon Woods and Josh Harrison are ranked pretty low at 3B, as you would expect. Pedro Alvarez unranked (because he’s in Minors?).
Lino Donoso
Some extra draft picks would be nice, especially if hard slotting goes down to defeat. Callis said again the other day he’s hearing from both sides that it won’t happen.

Cedeno — a pick
Doumit — a pick
Lee — a pick
Ludwick — a pick
Snyder — a pick
Snyder would take arbitration since he’s coming off a serious injury. Cedeno might take it too. But probably not. He and Doumit would want a multi-year contract given their ages. Ludwick might also accept arbitration given his 2011 campaign.
A mess of comp picks and the willingness to spend money would help the organization a lot. The 2012 draft class is not thought to be as strong as the 2011 class. It’s a shame that the Pirates did not have extra picks this year.

Evan Meek type A?
I’m not sure of the exact mechanics of the system but that seems very strange to me
—He is not a pending FA obviously but does that factor into the rankings?
Since the Pirates have an option on Cedeno, could they even get compensation if he ends up type B?
i.e., if they decline the option, can they even offer arbitration? As I think about this, isn’t he still in his first few years of team controlled arbitration anyways?
Yes, Yes and no
The Pirates can decline the option and still offer arbitration. Cedeno will have enough service time to become a FA at the end of the season if the option is declined.
