On This Date.......
in 1970, Pittsburgh beats the Mets, 4-3, at Three Rivers Stadium. Matty Alou’s two-out single put the Bucs in front in the seventh and Willie Stargell’s RBI single gave the Pirates a two-run margin going to the ninth. The Mets scored in the ninth and Tommy Agee was at second with one out. Joe Gibbon fanned Art Shamsky and Agree was thrown out by Sanguillen as he tried to steal third to end the game.
Hey Guys
I haven’t been on many game threads this year. We had a second kid and going from 1 to 2 is a major life changer. I compensated by getting MLB package and actually watching the games for the first time.
I just wanted to say I still come by this place daily and check out most game threads at work the next day.
It was a good 4 month run and I am looking forward to next season. I hope to be in on more threads.

Yep.
My best friend/cousin had a second child on opening day this year. He already had a two year old. When I go over to his house, I have a hard time paying attention to anything that we put on TV until the oldest goes to bed.

I hope they win today.
I’m watching the Texans instead.

Ok.
Not terrible, Sproles just ran in from about 30 yards to score a TD.

They just haven't been very good at defense.
That Super Bowl win looks a lot like the Giants World Series win last year. Just a sort of fluke win….

Maybe...
it’s our turn to be the fluke before long.

And the Bills might beat the Patriots today too.
And the Bears might beat the Packers.

well there is some money on the line and i need the saints to win…just saying
Thats what she said! - Michael Gary Scott
I think they might.
I dunno. This could end up being a really high scoring game. Especially if Houston could start scoring TD’s instead of FG’s. But otherwise, New Orleans will probably score here and make it 16-14 going in to the half, when they could be down 28-14.

Yeah.
If it’s a Yankees/Red Sox-Phillies World Series, I’ll not watch it. I really hope it’s Detroit and Arizona. Something different, ya know?

Jeez
Zobrist hit an inside the park HR because Bautista jumped to try to catch the ball but crashed into the wall and went down. But he’s up now and looks ok.
They're just not good at the sweep.

It's kind of weird we're getting Houston and New Orleans here in Iowa.

It’d make more sense if we got the late Kansas City game…

I believe...
the Houston-New Orleans game is the “national” game for those outside of local teams markets. That or the Jets-Raiders game. You can usually tell by the announce teams.
Gumbel and Dierdorf.
I guess it’d be a National game then.

Then again...
The local CBS guys probably didn’t want to try to compete with the Bears and Packers here.

He's not pitching too well!
In fact, he hasn’t too well all year. Which is disappointing. His Ks are down and his BBs are up and his HR ratio has more than normalized. :/
Oh well.
I’d rather have him than Octavio Dotel.

Um.
That’s who the Pirates traded to get McDonald. I’m just saying that the Pirates still won on that trade.

And my point was...
anything much more than a bucket of balls is better than Dotel has done since the trade.

Yes
They were talking about how great all the Yankees are and how Cano should get all these MVP votes and how Sabathia should win the Cy Young and I couldn’t take it.

Ya know...
I’m really sick of watching kickoffs flying in to the stands. They gotta move the kick offs back….

So um, take the "foot" part out of football?
Or maybe stop calling it Football and start just calling it “Gridiron”. Let soccer have football.

Basically
It sure as hell wouldn’t make anybody stop watching. Then we wouldn’t have to sit through commercials-kickoff return-more commercials sequences every game.
Of course they’d just tack on the commercials elsewhere, but it might not be as glaring.
Been a while since I have posted as I’ve been real busy with work and haven’t had a whole lot of free time. I’ve tried to keep up on the games as the season has winded down. What is everyone’s thoughts on bringing back Lee next season? I am definitely impressed with his play coming down the stretch. I would love to see him back for one more season. If he falls apart, give him the Overbay treatment, just hope it doesn’t take as long to pull the trigger.
The operative question...
is whether Lee wants to come back. I’ve seen nothing indicating he does. He wasn’t happy about being traded in the first place.
Very true
Should have mentioned that in my post. If he is willing to come back, I see no reason not to give him $8-10M. Especially if you can guarantee that if the team isn’t in contention, and he is playing well, that he will be traded to a contender.
Nice.
I turn over and the Pirates score two right away.

I feel like its been awhile since I've been around
Buckeyes won yesterday, and a Buccos sweep against the Reds and my Cinci roommates would cap off a nice weekend, most of which I don’t remember.
It's okay.
I was here Friday night and it was pretty dead. Not really missing much.
Of course the 9th inning was pretty sucky. I have recorded yesterday’s game to watch this winter when I start to miss baseball.

Damn Saints.
Tied game, the extra point will make it 17-16, Saints.

Suck it, ZiPS
As you may recall, ZiPS had a specific projection for this game. I’m at the game, so I’m not gonna check, but iirc it was 6 ip, 6 k, 3 bb, 3 er, 1 HR. Depending on how you want to judge the 2 unearned runs, it was either way off, or remarkably close.
If Dan reads this, im just needling.

Big applause for Hurdle
He just came on to announce his jersey giveaway, and clapping started immediately, coming to a crescendo as he finished.
I should have yelled, “Enough with the bunts!”

Doumit's final home game (maybe) as a Pirates
He rots on the bench even though he’s been the team’s best hitter this month.

Actually,
it appears that he got dinged by a foul ball on Friday, and it was a mutual decision to not play him.
