Dear baseball gods....

…please let us take 2 of 3 from the Brewers so we can go into the offseason with a warm fuzzy feeling.

On this date in 2011, Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-4 with two home runs and Charlie Morton stifled Milwaukee on three hits as the Pirates beat the Brewers 5-1.

Not necessarily

Lee got the double when the ball was bobbled.

What does that mean?!

by Trogluddite on Sep 26, 2011 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Ugly fact of the day:

The Pirates entered this series at Miller Park having not had a starting pitcher earn a victory in Milwaukee since May 2007. Tom Gorzelanny picked up the victory that day. Pittsburgh has won just two games in Milwaukee since then. The Brewers are currently on a 12-game home winning streak against the Pirates.

MLBTradeRumors.com...

reporting that a deal is in the works for Ozzie Guillen to become the Marlins manager. No word yet what the Marlins will give up. Compensation is necessary because Guillen still has a year left on his contract. Jack McKeon announced today he is not returning next season, so I’d say this rumor has a lot of legs.

Finally

I’ve been sitting here watching Marcum throw the same pitch—breaking ball low and outside—to our LH hitters about two-thirds of the time. Hardly any of these pitches are in the strike zone, but the Pirates not only chase most of them, they try to pull the ball on every single swing. And FINALLY Pedro takes him the other way.

Needless to say,

I would not be an upgrade over Ryan Braun in the baseball sense.

"WHITESNAKE! DOKKEN! NIGHT RANGER!" -- Ronny Cedeño

by Superstar25 on Sep 27, 2011 1:51 AM EDT up reply actions

To be fair,

it took Meals two apologies, because MLB didn’t like the first one, for some reason. This is after Meals more or less justified his original call right after the game, then allowed the next day as how he maybe might have possibly missed it in the first apology.

You can argue with Crewbacker all you want, but let’s not compromise the integrity of bucsdugout in the process.

Me, I still haven’t seen a tag.

by bucdaddy on Sep 27, 2011 12:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Crewbacker is really sweatin' out that playoff homefield situation

Since the Dbacks won the season’s series and the “Crew” has a losing record on the road. Looking for Chase Field tickets, backstop?

With or without the ball?

Cause the rules say if you don’t have the ball, you can’t block the plate.

Rule that gets routinely ignored, of course.

Always fun beating

those baseball championship virgins from Milwaukee. Did a little research, and only the St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings are the only major pro sport franchises with a longer drought of never winning a world title with that particular franchise. Unbelievable.

Back to the Bucs. Now 15 games better than 2010, and 10-14 in September. Good to see the club is still battling to the end.

Hours after the fact, but... RAISE IT!!!!

IAPiratesFan and I had a helluva time at the game, except for a coupla douchenozzle Brewers’ fans (unusually obnoxious – I typically have a decent time @ Miller), and we were there to break the streak!

It was also the looooongest game I have ever seen in person. Gah.

I also have a coupla good stories to relate when we tape the next podcast tomorrow night (Have you listened to the newest episode yet? The one that got posted today? Check the FanShots!)
