Dear baseball gods....
…please let us take 2 of 3 from the Brewers so we can go into the offseason with a warm fuzzy feeling.
On this date in 2011, Pittsburgh’s Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-4 with two home runs and Charlie Morton stifled Milwaukee on three hits as the Pirates beat the Brewers 5-1.
IAPirateFan and I
Are 2 rows back next to the REAL Bucs Dugout. Just chatted with NH, Lacee and Grilled Cheese.

Sorry, amigo...

Cutch scratched from lineup...
missed the pregame show, so don’t know why. Nothing on Twitter yet. Biertempfel said he looked fine in clubhouse.
Evidently...
hit with a batted ball in “the lower abdomen” in batting practice, according to Neverette.
Nice start to this one !
"Pitch me outside, I will hit .400. Pitch me inside, and you will not find the ball." - Roberto Clemente
We're almost to the
projected final score and its only the top of the 2nd (no freakin’ jinx)
What does that mean?!
Am I dreaming? Are we really up 4-1 already?!
No jinx no jinx no jinx…
Must be the power of having Cocktails and IAPirateFan in the stands….
HELLZ YEAH!

Of course, the
Brewers are presumably resting the top of their starting rotation
What does that mean?!
Dumb question...
sarcasm, right?
Hard work always beats talent if talent doesn't work hard.

eh, more like
a blinding flash of the obvious – haven’t bothered to check the box score or their depth chart
What does that mean?!
Haha, gotcha.
Marcum is throwing, FTR – he pretty much is the top of their rotation.

I'm surprised their not resting him
so he’s available for the start of the playoffs.
What does that mean?!
Well, I'm sure he won't go too deep into this game...
…especially with how he’s done so far.
You’re right, though; Gallardo and Greinke are nice starters, but I’d want Marcum to get the most starts for my team in the playoffs, out of those three.

Brewers trying to nail down home field
1 game ahead of dbacks. Pretty important when you have a losing record on the road.

Good point as well...
they’ve gotten our record from last year when on the road
What does that mean?!
did
I hear this correctly…. Cutch is 6 for 42 against the Brew Crew this year??? Wow…. Andrew better remedy that stat quick fast and in a hurry…
I'm still shakin my head that Charlie got out of that first inning with only one run
"Pitch me outside, I will hit .400. Pitch me inside, and you will not find the ball." - Roberto Clemente
I'm on radio feed, but...
I’m assuming that Chase or Not Elvis would have gotten a triple out of that hit by Lee.. am I right?
Ugly fact of the day:
The Pirates entered this series at Miller Park having not had a starting pitcher earn a victory in Milwaukee since May 2007. Tom Gorzelanny picked up the victory that day. Pittsburgh has won just two games in Milwaukee since then. The Brewers are currently on a 12-game home winning streak against the Pirates.
got any good news ?
"Pitch me outside, I will hit .400. Pitch me inside, and you will not find the ball." - Roberto Clemente
Steelers and Penn State both won
Not such good news if you’re a toothless, gun-totin’, redneck mountaineer
What does that mean?!
Well technically
I wasn’t particularly braggin’ – just stating a fact. I have cousins who lived in Fairmont.
What does that mean?!
Not really
I expected WVU to lose. I would have loved to see them win and I certainly cheered for them, but losing to LSU isn’t a bad thing. The Mountaineer season really comes down to one game: South Florida.
I watched while they were competitive
but then turned to another game. I would shudder to think of PSU facing LSU just now.
What does that mean?!
MLBTradeRumors.com...
reporting that a deal is in the works for Ozzie Guillen to become the Marlins manager. No word yet what the Marlins will give up. Compensation is necessary because Guillen still has a year left on his contract. Jack McKeon announced today he is not returning next season, so I’d say this rumor has a lot of legs.
No...no...
that was the last time, not the next time ;-). Although, if he took his barbecue with him, the Marlins might send us something.
Was that our obligatory "aggressive baserunning gone wrong" moment?

A little over 2 innings...
from the Red Sox frittering away their entire wild card lead.
Only thing I've seen so far...
is that the player involved is NOT Logan Morrison.
Actually...
if the White Sox were smart…they’d make the Fish take Adam Dunn and Alex Rios with Ozzie.
Too my untrained eye
pitch was a typical low outside pitch that he didn’t try to pull and soft-served it out to LF
What does that mean?!
How much does he weigh?*
- I was there, listening to the broadcasts – it meant a player’s weight, dammit.
What does that mean?!
by Trogluddite on Sep 26, 2011 10:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Finally
I’ve been sitting here watching Marcum throw the same pitch—breaking ball low and outside—to our LH hitters about two-thirds of the time. Hardly any of these pitches are in the strike zone, but the Pirates not only chase most of them, they try to pull the ball on every single swing. And FINALLY Pedro takes him the other way.
You're entitled to your own opinions. You're not entitled to your own facts.
Pedro earned a winter break on that hit
Hoping he learns to do that consistently, and in coming years be good enough to hit some of those out.

Atlanta should sue Houston
for non-support. First, with 2 on and nobody out, the ’Stros bring on a very young pitcher – who allows a double steal by Pujols and Holliday; then Berkman crushes a double, tying up the game.
What does that mean?!
Atlanta should sue themselves
9-16 in September, including 3 losses to the Cards

You mean the obviously blown call
that even the ump admitted he missed.
Nice try…troll. Go back to your bridge.
To be fair,
it took Meals two apologies, because MLB didn’t like the first one, for some reason. This is after Meals more or less justified his original call right after the game, then allowed the next day as how he maybe might have possibly missed it in the first apology.
You can argue with Crewbacker all you want, but let’s not compromise the integrity of bucsdugout in the process.
Me, I still haven’t seen a tag.
fwiw
this inning was probably another example of a situation where i d have wanted hanrahan in before the 9th
true
but people forget that pitchers wear down…when we started calling for this, it really wasn’t sustainable…we just need better performances from our setup men, which for the most part, we have
#31 All Day...
well, i was talking about him going just the one inning
because the inning with Fielder and Braun in it is the big one… the rest of the Brewers lineup is pretty average…

"Pitch me outside, I will hit .400. Pitch me inside, and you will not find the ball." - Roberto Clemente
As a catcher,
I’ve never understood why guys don’t go out to challenge the runner. I always moved up the line and challenged the runner.
With or without the ball?
Cause the rules say if you don’t have the ball, you can’t block the plate.
Rule that gets routinely ignored, of course.
Buccos obviously the better team

"Pitch me outside, I will hit .400. Pitch me inside, and you will not find the ball." - Roberto Clemente
Always fun beating
those baseball championship virgins from Milwaukee. Did a little research, and only the St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings are the only major pro sport franchises with a longer drought of never winning a world title with that particular franchise. Unbelievable.
Back to the Bucs. Now 15 games better than 2010, and 10-14 in September. Good to see the club is still battling to the end.
Hours after the fact, but... RAISE IT!!!!

IAPiratesFan and I had a helluva time at the game, except for a coupla douchenozzle Brewers’ fans (unusually obnoxious – I typically have a decent time @ Miller), and we were there to break the streak!
It was also the looooongest game I have ever seen in person. Gah.
