Super Off-Topic Lolz

So I was in my Poli Sci class today and here in Ohio, the issue of fracking and drilling for oil and natural resources has really started to become a hot topic in the news. So as we discussed it, I’ve long known its been a debated issue in the Greater Pittsburgh Area for awhile now, with everything concerning Marcellus Shale and what not.

And as we continued talking and the teacher brought up Marcellus Shale, all I could think about was one, super important thing—am I the only one that thinks Marcellus Shale sounds like it should be the name of a Defensive End from like Alabama or Auburn or LSU?

Ohlie

I really like Ohlie as a fan, it’s too bad that he hasn’t been better. I thought before the injuries that he could become a back end of the rotation guy.

If the Red Sox collapse continues you might want to listen to the flagship (WEEI) on the internet after the game and in the AM. It’s pretty funny.

Trogs...Re: "Mendoza Line"

Since I gave you such a hard time about this earlier in the season, as repentance I will let you know there is a Wikipedia user named “Anchoress” who agrees with you. Her input was “The Mendoza line is actually, Hitting below your weight. For instance, Bob Eucker weighed 215 during his career but he dipped below the mendoza line twice in his career, batting .208 fopr a stint in 1971, and again in 1972.” The community removed her input which is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AMendoza_Line . Can’t tell if her page gives one a contact.

by Central*Scrutinizer on Sep 27, 2011 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmmm

I had entered that info in wikipedia but it got deleted. George Brett claiming it aside, there is a problem with the theory that it referred to the batting averages listed in the Sunday papers – back in the day when there were papers, every local paper decided how much room to divert to listing batting averages – so, the paper in KC wouldn’t have the same list as the PPG. So the idea that Mendoza was the last player in every paper in the country doesn’t make sense.

What does that mean?!

by Trogluddite on Sep 27, 2011 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Fake bunt.

The defense went into the wheel play for the runner on second, leaving the middle of the infield wide open. Ohlendorf pulled back, and chopped one in front of the plate, over the mound and up the middle. Would’ve been an easy out if not for the fake bunt causing the wheel play.

Dodgers?

Uh… I’m not sure if you heard but…

Cubs wouldn’t shock me, but I doubt the Rangers spend that kind of dough on one player ever again. Other than that, LAA has Trumbo there, Chi Sox have the market, but they’re dealing with the Dunn contract there. Maybe the Mets if they don’t retain Reyes, but after that, there isn’t a huge market among high payroll teams for one of them. The other thing working against them is there’s 2 of them

Dbacks Rookie shutting out Dodgers thru 5

1st MLB appearance. Up from AA. Gibson has some cojones.

Jarrod Parker, right?

He’s gotten some mega-hype over at Sickels’ blog.

Jarrod Parker has been their best pitching prospect for awhile. This is his comback year from TJ surgery, but he is highly touted FWIW.

Jeff Locke vs Zack Grenke? That is a crappy way to end the season

by Yung-Han on Sep 27, 2011 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

Greinke...

likely only to go an inning or two tomorrow.

Cutch would not be the MVP candidate of the pirates but the entire league. Cutch while has improved in a power part of the game has seemed to worsen his contact numbers when he did. He seems to swing for the fences and guess on early counts more now.

by Yung-Han on Sep 27, 2011 11:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Basically

Although it hasn’t really made him a worse hitter, just a different one.

by Schide on Sep 27, 2011 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Nope

.364 wOBA this year vs. .363 wOBA last year.

Although his wRC+ is 131 vs. 126 last year because of run environment.

by Schide on Sep 27, 2011 11:16 PM EDT up reply actions

he has improved his walk rate so even though his strikeout rate has increased it hasn’t hurt him so much. Although I’’ve watched cutch strike out to end an inning and a rally, the question is that just random luck or poor approach at the plate with 2 strikes?

by Yung-Han on Sep 27, 2011 11:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Any think that meek looks ordinary now that his fb isnt hitting the upper nineties?

by Yung-Han on Sep 27, 2011 11:12 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t think you can top the Mckenry homer for the best moment of the season, I was screaming loud enough to wake the dead and i was watching at home

That is one way of stopping fielder from coming up.

by Yung-Han on Sep 27, 2011 11:18 PM EDT reply actions

And we just found the other way...

not scoring in the top of the 9th.

That was a pirate strategy to get hanrahan some rest

It's over

Fielder 5, Pirates 4, Brewers 1.

He dominated that race

Probably the only race he’ll ever win…
