Not feeling too confident
with Ohlendorf pitching tonight, what’s Aaron Thompson up to?
Probably...
gearing up for a bullpen appearance tonight or tomorrow.
Super Off-Topic Lolz
So I was in my Poli Sci class today and here in Ohio, the issue of fracking and drilling for oil and natural resources has really started to become a hot topic in the news. So as we discussed it, I’ve long known its been a debated issue in the Greater Pittsburgh Area for awhile now, with everything concerning Marcellus Shale and what not.
And as we continued talking and the teacher brought up Marcellus Shale, all I could think about was one, super important thing—am I the only one that thinks Marcellus Shale sounds like it should be the name of a Defensive End from like Alabama or Auburn or LSU?

There's a reason
that geologists shouldn’t do stand-up – leave it to the lawyers ;-)
What does that mean?!
Ohlie
I really like Ohlie as a fan, it’s too bad that he hasn’t been better. I thought before the injuries that he could become a back end of the rotation guy.
If the Red Sox collapse continues you might want to listen to the flagship (WEEI) on the internet after the game and in the AM. It’s pretty funny.
Yinzers uber alles
Rickie is the Week link in this lineup now

Who are our good luck charms tonight?
Last night Cocktails and IAPirateFan were in the stands… surely the incredible victory was a direct result of their presence. So, who amongst our happy crew are at the stadium tonight to bring us good fortune?
Sorry, amigo...
I was in studio tonight.
Hoping for a ticket for tomorrow’s game… Not likely, though.

Nice job by the new guy
Should be call him “Pags” or “Pag” for short?
Hey, “Trog,” what do you think?
hmmmmm
I’m pretty sure someone else will come up with a wittier nickname, but let me work on that for ya’
What does that mean?!
How about "Temp"?
that was a nice hit, though.

Uh-Oh...
Radio feed says that Hurdle wants Alex Not Elvis to practice bunting this winter…
Yeah, cuz, we don’t get enough bunts….
Wow
Thought “Not Elvis” would be out by a mile as the pitch was nicely placed and Harrison stood there doing nothing. But “Not Elvis” is in the house at 2B

Yeah, after last night's rousing victory, I expected more participation
Plus, if we win, we avoid a 90 loss season! Let’s go Bucs!
Nice play by Pedro
What does that mean?!
Though, in all fairness, Pedro was great last night..
Did he break the “Mendoza Line” or is he still a whisker under .200? That’s worth playing for, if you ask me…
Its not
.200 dagnabbit – its his weight. Someday, I will find something if I have to go through every PPG archived article there is.
What does that mean?!
And the pitch was shoulder-high, at that.
Crazy.

who knows what people are imagining a stewardess riding.
What does that mean?!
Wow.
Just wow. Pitch well above the letters, which he almost fell over hitting. and still, it is in the deepest part of the park.
What does that mean?!
Wonder where Ohlie will be on April 5, 2012.
Don’t think it will be in Pittsburgh, unless the Dodgers sign him.
You never know...
…they did give starts to Dana Eveland, after all.

Trogs...Re: "Mendoza Line"
Since I gave you such a hard time about this earlier in the season, as repentance I will let you know there is a Wikipedia user named “Anchoress” who agrees with you. Her input was “The Mendoza line is actually, Hitting below your weight. For instance, Bob Eucker weighed 215 during his career but he dipped below the mendoza line twice in his career, batting .208 fopr a stint in 1971, and again in 1972.” The community removed her input which is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AMendoza_Line . Can’t tell if her page gives one a contact.

you know her?
she does seem out there. she indicates she is almost always online on her YahooIM, so it might be fun to have a conversation

I always thought it was just a .200 average
Now I understand why Trog always brings up Pedro’s weight… I never did get that reference until now
Hmmm
I had entered that info in wikipedia but it got deleted. George Brett claiming it aside, there is a problem with the theory that it referred to the batting averages listed in the Sunday papers – back in the day when there were papers, every local paper decided how much room to divert to listing batting averages – so, the paper in KC wouldn’t have the same list as the PPG. So the idea that Mendoza was the last player in every paper in the country doesn’t make sense.
What does that mean?!
What is funny about this
is that before the advent of the internet, I never knew that there was an alternate definition of the Mendoza line.
What does that mean?!
Looks like....
there will be multiple meaningful games on the final day of the season.
How many more plural
than “games” is “multiple games”?

Damn! I stepped away from my puter...
What exactly did Ohlie do? Radio team saying they’ve never seen a pitcher do it before
Chopped it over the mound into
shallow center while the wheel play was on. It wasn’t far, but there was nobody there to get it.
What does that mean?!
Fake bunt.
The defense went into the wheel play for the runner on second, leaving the middle of the infield wide open. Ohlendorf pulled back, and chopped one in front of the plate, over the mound and up the middle. Would’ve been an easy out if not for the fake bunt causing the wheel play.

Eh.
I can see saving Hanrahan in this case; there’s a pretty decent chance Braun and Fielder come up again, later in the game (and therefore in a higher-leverage spot, assuming the game is still close).
Veras would make sense.

Markakis...
grounds to 1B after an eleven pitch AB vs. Papelbon. Hardy on 2nd with one out in the 9th. Sox up 8-6. Vlad Guerrero follows with a single, 1st and 3rd. Getting interesting over there, (of course not as important as events in Milwaulkee, but…)

Rather than worry about
Pedro and the Mendoza line, I’d like to see McClutch get back to the MVP line – .280 to .290 would be preferred.

Hughes?

I hate Braun and company, but I would still take Fielder in free agency. Pujols has been injury prone and while he is the best player in the game, you can’t afford to take risks with 200 million dollars.
When he gets injured, he heals in 10 days

Who is going to pay 200 mil for either of these guys. Both Boston and Yankees set at 1st and that kind of money for a DH is a little over the top. No?

Dodgers?
Uh… I’m not sure if you heard but…
Cubs wouldn’t shock me, but I doubt the Rangers spend that kind of dough on one player ever again. Other than that, LAA has Trumbo there, Chi Sox have the market, but they’re dealing with the Dunn contract there. Maybe the Mets if they don’t retain Reyes, but after that, there isn’t a huge market among high payroll teams for one of them. The other thing working against them is there’s 2 of them

Don’t even want to think about Cubs. Reyes not going anywhere and Mets have financial issues. Totally agree that both out at same time works against them and for home ball clubs. Would not be surprised to see both back where they are.

?
Pujols is not injury prone, what are you talking about? He’s had nagging things, but has never played less than 143 games in a any year.
i guess injury prone was a bad choice of words, i guess i meant can be more injury prone as he gets older.
And Fielder is going to age gracefully?
Put gently, he’s not a trim athletic guy. Players with his body type rarely age well.

I wonder if Wehner realizes just how valuable Cutch would be if he kept all his other numbers but also became a perennial .300 hitter.
Cutch would not be the MVP candidate of the pirates but the entire league. Cutch while has improved in a power part of the game has seemed to worsen his contact numbers when he did. He seems to swing for the fences and guess on early counts more now.
The excessive strikeouts make him a worse hitter
