Prince Fielder Homers Three Times As Pirates Lose
Prince Fielder homered three times in the Brewers' 6-4 defeat of the Pirates Tuesday night. The Pirates took a 1-0 lead early on a single by Matt Pagnozzi, but Fielder homered on a pitch about a foot up and out of the zone in the third, and then Rickie Weeks went back-to-back to make it 2-1. The Pirates scored two in the fifth, but then Fielder hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the inning.
The Bucs got one to tie it in the sixth, but left the bases loaded - it's a shame that Pagnozzi was 1) in the game and 2) sacrificed with one out - that might have cost the Pirates a chance to really score some runs, since Randy Wolf allowed a double and three walks that inning.
Jared Hughes entered in the seventh to face Ryan Braun and Fielder and promptly allowed a walk and Fielder's third dinger - it hasn't been a particularly good couple of days for Hughes.

if they resign carlos pena
don’t bet on it. though it would be hilarious if they put fielder in RF…
Ryan Braun has stolen 8 bases against the Pirates this season, and I don’t know if they’ve even gotten a throw off on any of them. You’d think he was the fastest runner in the league. For his career he’s now 21-23 against the Pirates. He hasn’t stolen more than 8 bases against any other team.
It probably helps him that his OBP against the PIrates is about .975.

I had this one on at the office
and every time I looked up, some Brewer was drilling one into the second tier. Those were some of the longest homers I’ve seen. I couldn’t believe when I got up close to the screen and saw it was 4-4.
They added up to what,
maybe 1,800 feet? That’s a third of a mile.
How did Ross look?
Obviously 3 BB to 3 K doesn’t sound good, but I’m curious about his speed, approach, etc.
I didn't see the game
but I’d guess that was Ohlendorf’s last appearance in a Pirates uniform, and possibly in a major league uniform (at least as a starting pitcher, his start vs. the Dodgers notwithstanding). his stat line this year is ugly no matter how you slice it.
did it ever occur to Hurdle to intentionally walk Fielder?
or maybe save time by just telling the pitcher to throw one at Prince?
I think that would require playing to win the game....
while also tacitly admitting our team is vastly inferior. I think the same approach should be used towards Braun at Miller Park. Either walk him or drill him. Either way it improves our chances of winning.
