Always interesting to see Sickels's take on players.

Good Stuff
pretty much said the things we’ve all noticed here, good arm, defense, speed, shows some power, but needs to improve the K:BB rate. All in all, Im still excited to see Marte at some point next season hopefully
Thats what she said! - Michael Gary Scott
Nice piece
I’ve been a huge Marte fan, but the general skepticism around here has tempered that. To see Sickels relatively hung-ho about him is heartening. It’s possible the refusal to take walks will hurt him chronically, but until some pitchers prove that he can’t hit .330, I’m satisfied with his game (and theres evidence indicating that he’s strike zone aware, just not strike zone obsessed).
Question (obliquely related to the annoying bench discussion): would you rather keep Presley as a plus 4th OF, or hope to trade him for value? Obviously, trade discussions always hinge on the return, but the question is whether you think Presley (maybe paired with a high-MiL SP?) could get enough return to justify giving up a really solid, all fields backup OF. I like the idea that, with Presley in house, we can withstand an injury to any OF with hardly a hiccup, but I also like the idea of using him (and maybe a spare #4 SP) to fill a serious hole, such as SS or 1B/3B. I kind of feel like, between Grossman and Gorkys, we have above average spare OFs.
The flip side of that would be
to trade Tabata for something of substantial value. I’m not saying right now, as his value is low with the injuries and lost playing time, but going forward, thats not a bad avenue to at least look into. Especially since that contract is very team friendly.

and cutch could bring back a top young SP in return, or a handful of good prospects
example: Cutch to SF for Bumgarner… or Verdugo, Surkamp and Belt
if Marte shines in AAA, and cutch is still not extended, the FO would be crazy not to kick the tires on Cutch
you could have ATLANTA as a trade partner for cutch...
they are even more desperate for bats than the pirates. you could center a trade around Mike Minor and JJ Hoover.
lots of teams would love to have cutch, and could give up plenty to get him.

If I were starting a conversation with Atlanta and trading Cutch there...
It’d be starting with Tehrehan. But I’d say that with about all of the teams you listed, basically starting with their top prospect.
Presley isn’t going to have any kind of significant trade value until he does it for a year or more.
