Flurry of Activity

Per Rob B's & Pirates Prospects' tweets:

The Pirates have recalled Jeff Locke, Aaron Thompson, Daniel Moskos, and Pedro Alvarez.

Pirates have also purchased the contract of Jared Hughes & activated Evan Meek. Paul Maholm and Kevin Correia to the 60-day DL to make room.

add jared hughes

So, it looks like the roster for the last month is set.

It also may be that Paul Maholm has thrown his last pitch as a Pirate.

Yes, this could well have been a Fan Shot, but I figgered more would see it here.

Well, it's good to see some young pitching talent

Taking the place of Maholm and Correia. With another meaningless September ahead, it will at least be interesting to see if Locke look serviceable for the rotation for next year.

I'm not convinced that Lincoln should be penciled into the starting rotation for next year.

He’s done O.K. in a few starts, but let’s not get too enthused.

Since Maholm doesn’t appear to have a significant injury, they might be able to work something out to keep him around next year. Correia will be around to work another half season or so and then his arm will fall off.

Frankly, we shouldn’t get too enthused about ANY of our starters.

I wouldn't say that...

I think Morton and McDonald took some pretty big steps this year. They don’t quite have the consistency we all want, but they’ve done well.

So Far from what I’ve seen and heard of games that Lincoln has pitched in. He’s struggled a bit but no more than James McDonald and he’s gone minimally 6 innings. I think he could go more, but usually Hurdle pulls him for a pinch hitter.

If he continues to give us quality starts (which I believe most of his starts have been) I don’t see why he shouldn’t be in the rotation.

I think they won’t keep Correia.
Maholm if he agrees to a reasonable contract would be good. But I don’t see us picking up his option year for the price of 9M i think it is.

Also

if Meek comes back around to form this last month, I see no reason to keep Veras who early on pitched well, but lately has been either stinking up the joint…or mailing it in.

I would like to see them keep Paul, but not for 9.5 million or whatever.

If that happens, I would imagine a rotation of

Maholm
Morton
Karstens
McDonald
Locke/Lincoln

Hopefully, the Correia era is over.

Everything that guy just said is bullshit . . .thank you

Why has Burress not been DFA’d? We now have 6 men in rotation if that’s where Locke is

by Mr. E on Sep 6, 2011 6:56 PM EDT reply actions

No need

It’s not like he is blocking anyone and with the dead arm bug setting in, it will be good to have extra arms hanging around.

by Brakeman8 on Sep 6, 2011 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

With Tabata down there's now a potential need

if Jones goes back to the OF (like he should), we need a backup 1B/PH and it would clear the 40 man spot for Hague. I don’t get why we didn’t call up Morris or Wilson for the pen if we need arms.

by Mr. E on Sep 7, 2011 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Because he is picking up Karstens’s start tonight.

Put on your dancin' shoes.

is getting Morton’s spot Saturday.
