Now You're Just Guessing
So Tristan Cockroft is a fantasy baseball writer for ESPN. He posted an article looking at each MLB team's closer options for next year. In it, he lists each team's projected closer, as well as a "sleeper" that could conceivably close in the case of an injury/trade.
Obviously Hanrahan will be the Pirates' closer next year, so that's not exactly news. And I know this is a fantasy article that doesn't really mean anything, but Cockroft lists as the Pirates' "sleeper" . . . Ryan Beckman? Who is 21 and split time between WV and Bradenton this year? Seriously, that's just lazy.

I'll go out on a limb
and say that Beckman is never going to be an MLB closer, let alone in 2012.
He did have a good season, but I have no idea what this guy is talking about. It would be interesting if there were actually some explanation for it.

Just off the top of my head
These are some guys I think would be more likely to serve as the teams closer next year if, God forbid, something were to happen to Hanrahan:
Evan Meek
Jose Veras
Chris Resop
Tony Watson
Danny Moskos
Bryan Morris
Daniel McCutchen
Ross Ohlendorf
Brad Lincoln
Justin Wilson
Jason Grilli
Jared Hughes
Duke Welker
Diego Moreno
and probably handful of trade options/waiver wire pickups. But if we are struck with a rash of injuries to the top 20 or so relievers in our organization? You’d better watch out for Ryan Beckman!!!
i think we should take Veras and Ohlendorf off of the list. dont think they will be in Pitt next year.
Why no Veras? NH finally found a tall, wild, fireballer who is somewhat effective. That would be akin to Anne Hathaway finally accepting my date offer and then I tell her I’m going to stay home and play video games instead.
Hathaway has a better chance at being here next year than Veras.
even though her balls in play are higher than the average reliever…
Behind Hanrahan...
the Pirates don’t have an obvious closer candidate. Plenty of guys that might have the stuff to do it…but none actually performing that role (at least none that profile as a major leaguer).
If Meek were 100%
(and back to early 2010 form)

Well
that’s about as deep as deep can get, and then it’s still deeper probably.
