Cryin' Ryan Unlikely to Get Suspension Overturned
I was suspicious of the initial PR blitz proclaiming a successful appeal to be virtually a slam dunk. It seemed very unlikely that MLB would announce a 50-game suspension of an MVP unless the case had a very high likelihood of standing up. Too many writers are too quick to take agent and union spin at face value.

A "personal medical condition" that requires synthetic testosterone?
Um, OK…not sure I even want to know the details of that.

You’ll sometimes see it prescribed for guys who’ve had testicular cancer. Mike Lowell or John Kruk, for example.
That said, I think this is just spin by Braun’s people. Like Paul Byrd’s supposedly theraputic use of HGH.
This is more than I needed to know.
Occupy MLB! Down with Seligula!

It's important
to have healthy nuts. I’ve got mine stashed away safe and sound.
(oh so tempted to drop the r in that title – but it wouldn’t have made sense)

Especially
since it’s spelled with an “e.”

I realised that as well but you can almost get away with it these days.

A serious moment here:
I lost one of my two best friends (the right one) to cancer a couple years ago. Guys my age (I’m 54) aren’t supposed to get testicular cancer, it’s a young man’s disease. But I did anyway. So you can, too. And everything still works now and I can’t sing Journey any better than I used to, so don’t be scared if you find a peanut growing on your nut. It’s not the end of the world.
I urge all you guys: Check your sack, Jack. Or have your GF/spouse/other check it for you, which I highly recommend.
I'm sure this has been mentioned before...
but if there was a justifiable medical reason for having the drug in his system, all he had to do was request a theraputic exemption. Had Braun done that…none of this would have come to light, at least in the public forum, because it wouldn’t have triggered a positive . From what I understand, however…most theraputic exemptions have to do with ADHD medications.
its rumored he has herpes.
no matter what his medical condition, he should have cleared any controversial treatments with the powers that be. i don’t think that cause a dr. says testosterone will cure you, thats a defense for peds.
these rumors of Braun are getting crazy
not one single factual story, just word of mouth stuff. even if he doesnt have Herpes, he will always be known as the MVPSTD
it would explain why his condition is hush hush. that an hipa.
if he had cancer or als, he would most likely be the poster boy/celebrity spokesperson, imo. i would not want it out there that i had a std, its embarrassing. while i would never wish it on him, it is ironic. i guess some of his cryin, is legit.

Herpes is usually treated with an antiviral, which should under no circumstances increase testosterone. Think about it this way: why would a herpes treatment exist that can’t really be used on half of the population? That’d be terrible business for the pharmaceutical industry and the sort of thing that they’re generally not interested in. I’m not a doctor or anything, but I just can’t see how that rumor holds much water.

well you are a respected journalist,
i expect that you deal in facts. if you google RB herpes, its out there, fact or fiction.

I don’t have facts here (and I’m guessing very few people do). I’m just using my general knowledge of how these things work (I’m a grad student in biochemistry/molecular biology) to connect dots. There certainly could be some new kind of treatment that works by a different mechanism that I’m not aware of, but it seems to me that that’s pretty unlikely.

My understanding had been that Braun was trying to claim that whatever treatment he was receiving for his “condition” (be it herpes or something else) led to an inaccurate reading on his testosterone level. Not that he was being given testosterone as part of his treatment for the condition.
I could be wrong, though.

Can only imagine the reception he'll get in Philly
They’re writing up herpes signs and coming up with herpes related chants as we speak.
Getting herpes is fun.
Having herpes … not so much.
Ball Four.

No,
it only took ballin’ one.
Mine is more or less in remission now. As I understand it, most people who contract herpes get one outbreak and that’s it. I beat the odds on that one, though. Unfortunately, at some point I passed it along to the missus. I contracted it well before we met; I informed her about it when we started dating; I thought I was careful not to pass it along, but obviously we weren’t careful enough; and now she still gets the occasional breakout. When it happens, it hurts some and it itches some. But again, like the cancer I noted above, it’s not the end of the world. I can remember, there was a time when people thought getting herpes WAS the end of the world. Then along came AIDS, and made a lot of us glad we only had herpes.
No, you can’t get it from shaking my hand or sharing a joint*, so don’t worry about that.
*—I don’t do that anymore, not since I woke up one night doing about 50 mph on the Parkway East after a party, but there was a time.
*You should-a stuck to greenies...
heh.
But kidding aside, what you say is true. I remember the onset of AIDS in the world’s news quite well, and all of the misinformation that was disseminated so very quickly.
Wake me up before you go-go, indeed.
