2. Jameson Taillon
3. Starling Marte
4. Josh Bell

6. Robbie Grossman
7. Tony Sanchez
8. Kyle McPherson
9. Stetson Allie
10. Nick Kingham

13. Jarek Cunningham
14. Alex Dickerson
15. Zack Von Rosenberg
16. Colton Cain

I'm adding Yamaico Navarro to the poll, since he got some write-in love last time. If you want to vote for someone who's not listed, add his name under "others" and then reply with a +1 (please remember to add the +1 so I know that it's an official vote). This poll will run for 24 hours.

If I would have know he was eligible, I would have voted for him many spots ago.

Should the Pirates keep Neal Huntington?

Okay you convinced me

I will vote for Navarro. I’ll come back to Holt soon enough.

You guys flip flop too much

last year everyone was saying Morris was the best of the A-4 and I was the hater. Now he can’t even crack the top 20. He always had the bullpen in his possibilities but he’s still got a 1st round arm.

I sure hope

the Pirates reconsider him starting at Indy but with the logjam of Owens, Locke, Wilson, and maybe Lincoln (he’s on his last option) it’s highly doubtful.

Like Wilson, Morris lacks the changeup necessary to be a starter. He also has inconsistent mechanics and an injury history. His future is in the ’pen. I think the Pirates should just forget about him as a starter and focus on getting him to Pittsburgh as a reliever so he can take over when Hanrahan gets traded.

Not trying to beat this to death

and judging by the love you’ve gotten for Hanson, maybe I should take some marketing lessons from you Epoc, but I’m sick of voting for Wilson, so I’m going to repeat my argument from the last round.

While I think Wilson has the stamina to start, I don’t think he will start. I’ve been trying to get him in for the past few spots because I’m hoping that he can use that FB that tops out at 99 to be a good LOOGY for the Bucs. Some might think it’s depressing to have a LOOGY in the team’s top 20 but anybody who watched Rzepczynski pitch for the Cards last fall should know that a good LOOGY is quite valuable.

Ultimately, I’m trying (and so far failing) to get Wilson in because while his value as a LOOGY is probably much lower than anybody who winds up as a good #3-4 starter or a solid 1B or cOF, I think his proximity to the majors and unteachable velocity makes him more likely to reach this goal than the other guys on the list to live up to their admittedly higher ceilings. Wilson’s MiLB K numbers have been OK but not great (7.6 K/9) but that’s with him throwing a FB 5-7 MPH slower than he does as a reliever. His control, while not elite, is certainly not crippling either for a reliever (4.5 BB/9). He is definitely not a finished product, but I think he is capable of being a valuable player for the Bucs at the ML level.

Pretty much my reasoning.

Unfortunately, I feel bad not voting for Hanson, Osuna and Navarro, because I think they are top 20 prospects and ahead of Holmes, Mercer and Dodson.

Everything that guy just said is bullshit . . .thank you

Aight

Curry needs some love. Ya he struggled at AA, but he wasn’t terrible and he absolutely crushed at Low-A ball. I love Hanson to death, but he played at the GCL last year. You’d have to think Hanson has a substantially higher ceiling than Curry to rate him ahead of Curry at this point. At least that’s my opinion.

by McCutchenIsTheTruth on Jan 17, 2012 12:54 AM EST up reply actions

Hanson has a bigger upside

than Curry. IMHO it’s only a matter of time before Dickerson (barring any back flare-ups) outpaces Curry and thus Curry becomes trade bait to someone.

by BadAndy on Jan 17, 2012 10:24 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t see how it’s even debatable that Hanson has a higher ceiling than Curry. Curry was a sixteenth-round pick even as a college senior, he has no athleticism, speed, or defensive value. He has some power and a solid approach, but at the same time his swing is long and slow. He doesn’t project to be any better than a second-division firstbaseman at the very best.

His case is mostly that he “absolutely crushed Low-A ball,” as you say, but he did so for under 200 PA as a 22 year old (just shy of 23) after four years of college (two in a major program). If he’d done it at AA that would be something, but in the SAL I don’t think we should put too much weight on it.

by epoc on Jan 17, 2012 11:34 AM EST up reply actions

Hanson

has plenty of athleticism, but he’s a small dude which will limit his potential with the bat (most likely, there are always exceptions), especially in the power category. It’s not enough to balance out and even up with Curry’s ceiling, but it is something.
