Ed Wade Rises from the Grave
The Astros signed Jack Cust for two years. He hit 213/344/329 in 2011 and his defense is barely good enough for DH. Wtf?

MLBTR has changed the story. Now they’re saying one year with a club option. I still can’t see a major league deal for this guy.
Occupy MLB! Down with Seligula!
Especially in the National League, where he has virtually no value.

How many club options does the deal have?
If they tack like 5 on there, then they’re set when they move.
The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.
Perspectives become reality.

I’m not as outraged by this as I should be, I guess. Cust was terrible last year and he’s always been all bat, but as long as the financials are 1M or under (have they been released?), this isn’t a big deal. He’s a decent bench bat. I know he can’t touch the field beyond pinch-hitting, but if he puts up a .350 OBP from the bench, that’s probably enough to warrant a roster spot.
No jinx no jinx no jinx.
As someone pointed out yesterday on twitter (KLaw, I think?)
Jack Cust seems to be allergic to leather.

Hard to believe he had a plus uzr in left field in 2010, albeit in small sample size. Of course, Carlos Lee was apparently a good defender last season, so who knows what we’re looking at.
HEY!
that’s a whole 1/16th of a season there matey!

Turns out
It’s a non-guaranteed deal worth only $600k. I guess it really doesn’t even matter.
