Eldred is a K machine...
…but I still find it a little odd that a guy who has pretty much destroyed AAA hasn’t gotten more than 260 MLB ABs.
Worse guys have gotten more of a chance.
I've wondered about this too
While he is clearly a flawed hitter, you’d think he would have stumbled into a bench role at some point. If I had to guess why he never really got a shot after his OK but not awful debut in ‘05 it’s because he was so bad in ‘06 and ’07 that he lost any and all momentum that he had built up. His OBP’s those two years were .310 and .275 which won’t cut it no matter how much power you have (unless you’re Mark Trumbo, then you can somehow trick people into thinking it’s ok). Even in ‘08 when his power returned his OBP was still a dismal .305. After that, while his numbers were decent again, especially when combined with the power, he was a 28 year old MiLB journeyman who was four years removed from being any kind of a prospect. Yeah his power numbers were good but a guy in his late 20’s and crazy power should be able to put up those types of HR totals against AAA pitching. He was just a classic AAAA tweener.

IIRC,
he’s gotten worse and worse as a fielder, no?
ALSO: Frex, in Chicago, there was no way he was gonna play with Konerko and Thome there.
In Washington, Nick Johnson and Dunn.
…and so on…
