Around SBN: Tottenham May Have Found Their Goalkeeper Of The Future

Every year, Baseball America prints a few scouting reports on players who are decent prospects, but not quite good enough to make it into their team's Top 30 list for BA's printed prospect guide.

The piece at the link includes reports on two such players from the Pirates' system: shortstop Gustavo Nunez and outfielder Harold Ramirez.

Good timing.

A bunch of us, myself included, have been wondering a bit about Ramirez lately, given that information on him (other than his signing bonus) has been a bit difficult to come by.

As an aside, I’m sad now – the Pirates have a legitimate prospect younger than I am.

Hard work always beats talent if talent doesn't work hard.

How many brooks would a Brooks Laich like if a Brooks Laich could like brooks?

Marginally, yes.

Actually, wait. I'm marginally older.

Gah, dang it. That makes TWO, then.

respect

you come off as much more seasoned.

I know how you feel

I was older than Staal when the Pens won the Cup. That pretty much ended my “I’m a college walk-on, so that means I still have a chance at a pro career” dream, since I realized I was a failure by not winning a cup at his age

It only gets worse. Wait until the minor-leaguers older than you aren’t even prospects anymore.

In 2000, I was a freshman in college and the Clippers drafted Darius Miles. He’s 3 1/2 months younger than me. They signed him to a $9 million contract. I had $9 in my pocket. I wanted to cry.

Yep. It was when the Pens drafted Fleury that I felt the same thing.

Put on your dancin' shoes.

I was a freshman in HS and played varsity bball against him. I wanted to cry after that beating. He was good. Too bad he washed out as a pro.

Even WORSE:

When you think about how those MiL’s finally made The Show, played 5-6 years, retired, and are STILL YOUNGER THAN YOU, AND THEY’VE BEEN RETIRED FOR 5 YEARS.

I’m looking forward to seeing my name on the hall of fame ballot any year now.

I just hope Wakefield is still playing this season

so I know there will be at least one active player older than me.

You guys are not getting a lot of sympathy from those of us who remember Steve Blass’ debut.

It’s not like it was in my day.

Nice to hear some good things about

Harold Ramirez even if he’s still raw.
Sounds like a Corner Outfielder due to his arm strength or can that be improved?

The Nunez report at least says that he’s a good fielder. I suppose he can sit on our bench while Barmes plays short and start occasionally. Hopefully his bat progresses a little to be better than Barmes but not holding out too much hope.

Ramirez’s eventual position probably depends on how his body fills out as he ages. Based on what I’ve read, though, it sounds like he’s more likely to end up as a corner guy.

The first MLB player younger than me

was Tim Raines. The last active player who was older was Julio Franco
