May I present to you the all ex-pirate team of 2012. This group of ballplayers once marked as outcasts on one of the worst teams in the league fought back and found new homes. Their underdog story continues though as they fight for the playoffs!
The Starting Lineup
1. Luis Cruz 2B LAD
2012 WAR: 2.6
2. Pedro Ciriaco 3B BOS
2012 WAR: 0.7
3. Ryan Ludwick LF CIN
2012 WAR: 3.0
4. Brandon Moss 1B OAK
2012 WAR: 2.2
5. Nate McClouth CF BAL
2012 WAR: 1.0
6. Ryan Doumit RF MIN
2012 WAR: 1.6
7. Ronny Cedeno SS NYM
2012 WAR: 0.7
8. Chris Snyder C HOU
2012 WAR: -0.2
9. Paul Maholm SP ATL/CHC
2012 WAR: 2.4
The 2012 All Ex-Pirate Team combined to put up a WAR off 14.0 while having the majority of its players being payed the MLB minimum salary. If you include Paul Maholm's WAR with the rest of the hitters the team WAR for position players would be better than what the Indians, Astros and Mariners position players produced. The most upsetting performance of these players is Brandon Moss. Wouldn't it be nice watching Moss bat instead of Jeff Clement these days. I don't no if this is good sign or a bad sign for GM Neal Huntington though. It's good because he's identifying players that can produce good numbers. But it's bad because they're not developing in Pittsburgh. I'll leave that up to you and Bob Nutting to decide.
