A Few Offseason Ideas

To start off my offseason I would make a trade for Victor Martinez of the Tigers. He's owed 25 million over the next 2 years and being there DH doesnt provide much value for them. So, heres my proposed deal:

Pit gets: Victor Martinez, 5 mill, and Brennan Boeasch.

Det gets: Joel Hanrahan and Andrew Lambo

This way, Detroit can target a guy like Ortiz with the money saved and replace their closer. The pirates get a catcher that is an on base machine and drives in alot of runs. He isn't the best defensively but surprise, surprise, hes still better than Barajas.

My next Move would be to acquire Mark Buerhle of the Miami Marlins. Hes owed 48 million over the next 3 yeas so obviously Mami would have to eat some of his contract. Heres my proposal:

Pit gets: Mark Buerhle and 22 million in salary relief

Mia gets: Jared Hughes and Matt Hague

The fascinating part about Buerhle is in his 13 years of pitching, he has only gone under 200 innings once, and that was his rookie year. His Original contract called for 11 m, 18m, and 19m. With the 22 million, I'd make it 9 mill, 8 mill, and 9 mil.

In Free Agency, I would try and go after relief pitching which NH is so good at.

*Dice-K, 1 year, 1 mill non-guaranteed. He would compete for the Long man role.

*Joel Peralta, 1 year 2.5 mill. Let him compete for closing job. 11.3 K/9 but age lowers cost.

*Koji Uehara, 1 year 2.5 mill. Same deal as Peralta. (either peralta or uehara not both)

So, to round out my offseason I would have added 23.5 million to this years cap. 9 from Buerhle, 10 from Vmart, and a possible 3.5 from Dice-K and Uehara/Peralta

My opening day roster:

1. Starling Marte, LF

2. Neil Walker, 2B

3. Andrew McCutchen, CF

4. Garret Jones, 1B

5. Pedro Alvarez, 3B

6. Victor Martinez, C

7. Travis Snider/Jose Tabata, RF

8. Clint Barmes, SS

9. Pitcher

Josh Harrison or Brock Holt, UTIL

Jose Tabata/Travis Snider, OF

Michael McKenry, C

Gaby Sanchez, 1B

Brennan Boesch, OF

********************************* Pitching Rotation:

1. AJ Burnett

2. Wandy Rodriguez

3. Mark Buerhle

4. Jeff Karstens

5. James McDonald

Closer: Grilli/Peralta or Uehara

SU: Grill/Peralta or Uehara

MR: Tony Watson

MR: Justin Wilson

MR: Bryan Morris

LR: Dice-K/Leroux

LR: Chris Resop

I think these are all within the realms of possibility and with this team right here I think it has the oppurtunity to go very far. I know that we are adding alot of cap but with the Loss of Barajas, Morton, and Correia that cuts 23.5 to roughly 14 million.

Anyways, lemme know what you guys think.
