Seven Pirates prospects continue to soldier on in the Arizona Fall League. The Pirates' best hitter in the AFL so far has been Adalberto Santos, who has five multihit games in his last nine. This shouldn't be surprising, necessarily, since Santos has hit at every stop since being drafted. He still appears to be on track to be a good part-time player in the bigs.
Gift Ngoepe has played a bit more sparingly, with only 43 at bats so far, but he's posted a decent .755 OPS. Matt Curry has a .707 OPS so far after going 3-for-5 on Tuesday.
The Pirates' most impressive pitcher has been Kyle Kaminska, who leads the Scottsdale Scorpions in innings and has 21 strikeouts and four walks over six starts. If the Bucs can mold Kaminska into a good starting pitching prospect, they might be able to turn a deal I didn't like (Gorkys Hernandez and a comp pick for Kaminska and Gaby Sanchez) into a minor coup.
None of the Pirates' other pitchers (Brandon Cumpton, Tyler Waldron and Vic Black) have done anything particularly great, and Cumpton and Waldron aren't good prospects anyway. Black walked four batters and allowed seven runs over two-thirds of an inning in an outing last week and now has 11 walks and 15 runs allowed in 9.2 innings.
