The Pirates have signed third baseman / first baseman Jared Goedert to a minor-league deal, Ken Rosenthal writes.
As with Darren Ford, Goedert isn't likely to make an impact in the majors. He'll be 28 in May. He's a fairly good Class AAA player, though, having hit 19 home runs at Classes AA and AAA last year for the Cleveland Indians and posting an .834 career OPS in AAA. (He posted a .792 OPS there last year.) I've seen him many times in Columbus in the past couple years, but he never really stuck out; he's just a good all-around Class AAA hitter who would probably be stretched in the majors.
