The Pirates traded Chris Resop and designated Jeff Karstens for assignment, but kept all their other arbitration-eligible players in the organization.
The Pirates tendered contracts to Neil Walker, James McDonald, Joel Hanrahan, Garrett Jones and Gaby Sanchez. They also signed Charlie Morton to a one-year, $2 million contract, avoiding arbitration.
The other two arbitration-eligible players were Chris Resop, who was traded to the Athletics earlier in the day, and Jeff Karstens, who was designated for assignment.
Morton's contract was for less than he would have made in arbitration. It's nice to have him remain in the organization, of course, although he's unlikely to make an impact before midseason.
