Jon Heyman writes that, in addition to the Dodgers, the Red Sox could be a destination for Joel Hanrahan.
While the Pirates aim to add a starting pitcher, a Red Sox package might instead feature multiple players, including a young pitcher. Pittsburgh needs one starting pitcher, as it expects to find a fourth starter internally from a list that includes veteran James McDonald, who started strong last year but tailed off in the second half.
Heyman is wrong about McDonald, who is one of three starters, along with A.J. Burnett and Wandy Rodriguez, who's virtually guaranteed a rotation job if he's healthy. The Pirates' need for starting pitching is more urgent than Heyman makes it sound.
The article also says the Dodgers might also acquire the Indians' Chris Perez or the Mets' Bobby Parnell instead of Hanrahan.
