A couple bits of news:

-P- The Brewers have signed our old friend Tom Gorzelanny two a two-year deal. It's not yet clear how much he'll make, but a two-year contract doesn't sound too bad for a guy who just got non-tendered. The Brewers plan to use him as a reliever, which is probably the best role for him.

-P- Placido Polanco and the Marlins have agreed to terms, apparently on a one-year, $2.75 million contract. He'll play third base for them. Polanco is past his peak, and he missed a bunch of time with back trouble, but his defense still makes him a decent gamble. If his offense bounces back after a .257/.302/.327 season in 2012, $2.75 million will be a bargain.

-P- The Cubs have agreed to terms with Carlos Villanueva for two years and $10 million. The Cubs are also in the thick of negotiations with Edwin Jackson, and their rotation will be fairly crowded unless they make further moves, so Villanueva will probably be used as a swingman and long reliever. He's been much better as a reliever than as a starter throughout his career, so that would make sense.
