Stumbled across this tweet from Maury Brown, the Biz of Baseball guy, regarding the details of MLB's new TV contract.
Here's the link in all it's glory:

Naturally ESPN will get the chunk of the pie but Fox and TBS will be a part of that as well. Even MLB Network could join in.
Basically it DOUBLES the most recent contract payout. If we split it up by 30 teams that averages out to $50 million PER TEAM.
The point I'm trying to make is that it could increase the Pirates payroll to as much as 25 MILLION next offseason. So I expect the Pirates to be able to not only handle the rising salaries of McCutchen, Alvarez, Jones, and Walker but also to be able to maintain the salaries of Martin and Liriano. In addition, they should be able to sign a solid FA or two (but of course bein that this will be a buyers market free for all it may remain the same)
Then again, we've all seen how Nutting can be in the pocketbook. Would it be in his best interest to sell within the next year? If he continues his mom and pop ways next offseason (Trading Pedro and Jones, signing the usually scrap heap FA) there will be a lot of heck to pay from even the casual Pirates fans.
So does this new mlb TV contract benefit the Pirates fans or just the owner.
Those who have a better financial sense then I do (I was a Finance Management major once upon a time) I'd like to hear your thoughts on this......
