Why the Pirates should NOT trade Andrew McCutchen
Why I don't think the Pirates should trade Cutch

Well of course you wouldn’t them to trade him, then you’d have to change your name! ;)
Unless you were named after No Relation all along…
Well put
one thing that you alluded to without coming right out and saying it is that by waiting another 2.5 years to shop McCutchen (or at least consider it) the Pirates will have a much better idea of what kind of shape the team will be in going forward because a lot of the current roster is in a transition phase. Imagine dealing Cutch for a package full of prospects then in 2014 having a roster with a successful group of Pedro, Tabata, Walker, AP, Cole, Taillon, Sanchez etc and the team is one “McCutchen” caliber player away from being a legit contender.
On the other hand, if enough of that group comes up short (nojinx) that the team is not contending in 2014, it will be much easier for the Pirates to justify parting with McCutchen for a Halladay-esque package of 3 top-100 guys (which is not out of the question when compared with Pence’s return).

Yep
We could trade now and fill the ‘wrong’ holes.

if the Pirates are winning consistenly
to the point they are in position to win WITH Cutch by 2014. Then by all means we should’t trade him.
But has it stands this is a 90 loss team in 2012.
2013 will be THE year whether we’ll find out if Cutch is here for the long run on not.
It will have to depend on Marte, Alvarez, and Tabata become something special.
If its still spinning wheels then as early as NEXT offseason you have to consider trading Cutch to get MAXIMUM value back.
I can think of a couple teams that the Pirates would love to have in return. Colorado, for example, has a 20th overall prospect in Nolan Arenado.
For a small market team like the Pirates if you can get solid WAR from Marte, Grossman, and even Tabata in a fracture of cost THEN you can be able to attempt to trade Cutch for a 3B, SS, and 1B that can bring in good return value at a fraction of a cost.
This is how small markets team win when people like Bora$$ prices them out of the market.
Gosh
dangit people :P
That’s not the only reason!

If Marte is as good as the hype (I’m not sold quite yet), then it might make sense to deal Cutch for help at positions where the system is lacking.
If, for example, the Rangers offered Profar and some other good pieces for Cutch, NH would be foolish not to at least consider that. Even without other pieces, the combination of Profar and Marte might prove stronger than McCutchen/Barmes.
Profar
just finished playing Low-A ball. Cutch just had a great season in the major leagues. Prospects bust so much. Too much risk to just get Profar.

Right
I was more referring to your last sentence.
I think it needs to be a crapload though. The Marlins got two top 10 guys, and neither panned out, at least for their team.
I’ll stand by it, but there’s really only one team I’d be interested in trading him to is the Rangers.
I think you start with Profar, Lenoys Martin, and Mike Olt, and then probably need either Martin Perez and C+ upside guy or Cody Buckel and Neil Ramirez.

The only way this even gets considered
is if those “other good pieces” are Perez, Olt and Martin…

If Profar's offense
is anything like he had in Hickory he’s gonna be Jose Reyes v2.0
but because he’s gonna be in advance A next year he’s got a long ways to go and probably won’t be a factor until 2016.
So (hypothetically) if Cutch was for Profar then that tells Pirate Nation to sit back and deal with another rebuild.
The Yinzers just won’t deal with that.
