#yankees don't love the 2 minor leaguers #pirates offered for aj. best guess, it still gets done, with pitt paying $13-15M of aj's $33M

But...

I thought they only wanted an “OK” prospect?

yikes

Paying 2/13 and two minor leaguers for Burnette is borderline stupid. I’m not sure I like how this is shaping up. (I should probably wait until something official is announced before getting worked up about it, though.)

depends on the minor leaguers, doesn't it?

I wouldn’t mind giving up, say, Black and Calvin Anderson.

I wouldn’t mind giving up those two either, but Burnette shouldn’t cost 2/13 at all, let alone with players thrown in. If Burnette was a free agent he wouldn’t get more than 1/7, would he?

Probably not, but there might be an additional option cost in getting exclusive rights to him. He might get 1/7 from a team that wasn’t the Pirates.

Also, I read that tweet as meaning “The Pirates offered $10M and two guys, but the Yankees didn’t love the guys, so the PIrates are paying more instead of giving up two guys,” or something like that.

Not actually affiliated with whygavs.

“Pirates more concerned about prospects than money” – Heyman, I doubt the Pirates give up anything of significant value.

FWIW

The offer of two prospects may have been either/or.

I wouldn't give up 1 prospect for Burnett.

I’d give up only fillers, at most.

Should the Pirates keep Neal Huntington?

I take the word prospect here to mean: minor leaguer who is not an old journeyman. So saying “prospect” may be a bit strong. My guess is the Pirates are offering two younger, what I would call, non prospects.

I'm Guessing

Huntington trying to convince Cashman that giving him Kevin Mort and Rinku Singh will help him save face on the deal…

Picking up $13-15 million of Burnett's contract...

is a pure DL move.

I can’t believe NH could screw this up this badly. No one else wants him and the Yankees are desperate to dump him. $10 million straight up should get it done with no player included.

Nothing like the Yankees making the new guys feel wanted.
